EMIRI - Modem Festival 2022 The Swamp

Among many crazy and funny things I said (and did) this summer, one sentence glued to my mind: 

LIFE IS A WONDERFUL THING TO WASTE! 

I meant this in a sense of "how much of ourselves are we willingly suffocating to maintain the image THEY have imposed on us so that we can develop, progress and move freely?" Life's too short to maintain that image. Live your life the way you want. Your life is only yours, and if it makes you happy to "waste it", well it's yours to waste!

After five or six years I played (almost only) a deep techno set at The Swamp, Mo:Dem Festival. I hope you will enjoy it as much as I did.

In my process of overthinking I labeled my style of (writing and) DJ-ing as BRICOLAGE /ˌbrɪkəˈlɑːʒ/. In the arts, bricolage (French for DIY or do-it-yourself) is "the construction or creation of a work from a diverse range of things that happen to be available, or a work constructed using mixed media." This definition fully and realistically corresponds to what I'm creating, whether it is a text or a DJ set. This definition also fits my punk philosophy and aesthetics.

Recording of my DJ set from xXETEXx night at Hammahalle (Sisyphos), where I played from 04 to 07 on Sunday, 4.12.2022. and shared the stage with Josephine Wedekind, Herrmann Stöhr and Aka Nina. 

From my post, published on 23rd November:

"Rhetorical question. Did you know that for every story you share (with disgust, pleasure or disdain) about the success of a female producer / DJ in the scene that is based only or mostly on good looks, you ignore the majority of women on the scene. Women who have built their careers and success, apart from their good looks, only on persistence, hard work, quality, a good ear and excellent selection and technique. It is time that, in addition to insisting on gender equality, we also talk about the negative approach and attitude we have. 

With great pride, honor and happiness I will share the DJ booth with three women with a capital W who have made me dance, cheer up and laugh on more than one occasion."

All the love of this world goes to my friends - your love, kindness and support means everything to me.

A special greeting goes to my dear friend @lilianstark without him this recording would not exist.

Respect and gratitude to the people I shared the dancefloor with that night and my vision of music during part of it.

My heart goes to Madchester Monster, S.H. You are an inspiration and motivation. I wish I could spend a day in the beautiful brain of yours just to see what the world looks like from your perspective. My love for you is unworldly and will exist forever, even if/when love takes us apart.

Down the rabbit hole, this time we are led by BROJANOWSKI. Brojanowski ́s musical way started when he was a teenager. He loved to listen to dancehall music from the late 70's and early 80's. Artists like Yellowman and Eek-a- Mouse were his stars. Those slow repetetive rhythms and beats drove him insane. When he got in touch with electronic music he wanted to experiment as well and started to dj with a friend who had some old vinyls. Back then he got his first sequencer program and started to work on sounds. Bit by bit he could refine his techniques, learn more about music and spread his horizon for new ideas. Moving to Hamburg lead him to perform on some parties were he could play his own songs and his first live sets. His style back then was more minimalistic than it is today but still trippy. He got to release songs on some labels like Der Hut, Cirque du Minimaliste and Lethal Dose Recordings - mostly dark Minimial and Techno labels. It is hard to say what style excactly Brojanowski is playing. It always has been trippy and playful with a strong base and a wicked groove mixed up with abstract sounds. He likes to take people on a journey and surprise with unconventional ideas, creating a universe of tones and melodies.

Val Vashar is a passionate music lover whose DJ sets are a combination of progressive and techno music. No matter the style he plays, the common denominator is always deep, twisted and psychedelic soundscape.

In addition to playing at countless smaller and larger parties, he is a frequent guest at various international festivals. Although he was involved in many projects during the years, today he works only on production of Mo:Dem Festival.

His base is Zenon Records where he works as a label DJ.

Raised on hardcore punk ethics, he is deeply rooted in the underground scene, and still applies the same principles to his DJ career and work.
