This week on Valhalla we have the young Scottish selecta, Franck. We first heard about Franck with this previous alias VIGILE, his debut EP with Childsplay bagged DJ mags electro release of the month and had various premieres with Mixmag. He then followed that with more fantastic releases like “Knock” “Get Busy” & “Break The Law”. Following his alias change, he has went on to release a series of self released EPs and fortunately for us, has lots more heavy hitting bangers to come! He has also demonstrated his ability to curate fresh new techno as the label head of Carouse.

Valhalla Radio - FRANCK

We welcome Cork based duo Southern Division to the Local Selection hotseat today, as they provide us with an hour of power, featuring a whole heap of the good stuff.

We caught a set from the Southern Division's live stream a number of months back, as they provided a guest mix for the mighty Dali club night in Cork. The mix was full of vintage techno from the golden era, mixed nice and fast with plenty of energy. We absolutely loved it, so we had to track the lads down and request a mix for our series.

If you're unfamiliar with Southern Division, here's a brief background.  The techno duo are from the depths of West Cork and having played together at a number of gatherings and realising their shared love for similar styles and sounds, the pair decided to join forces and it wasn't long before they started to make a name for themselves as Southern Division.  Having appeared on multiple guest mix series and most recently playing a 2 hour set for Dali's live stream during the summer, we expect to see plenty more of the pair once clubs can safely reopen. 

Their style consists of raw underground and heavy grooves, taking inspiration from techno legends, such as The Advent, Chris Liebing, Player, Kaiser and User to name a few.

Local selection 163 comes from Lost resident Gaff, as the Dublin based producer comes through with a slamming assortment of hard techno and hardcore. Gaffa’s not messing about in this mix, coming in hard and fast from the get go.

Based in Dublin, Gaffa is the alias of Meath native Paul Darcy, well known in Dublin’s club scene for the last few years as a DJ, producer, and promoter for the successful ‘LOST’ collective, which he co-founded in 2018.

Having played at many different club nights and festivals in the past, he has become most notable for his ability to blend different styles and genres. Under the guise of Gaffa, Paul is creating a sound that spans across hard techno, gabber, jungle and much more.

Having recently played sets in The Sound House, Index and The Grand Social, he is going from strength to strength and is certainly one to watch.

This mix showcases where Gaffa is at musically in 2022, leaning on the harder spectrum of techno with elements of hardcore and jungle throughout. This one is not for the faint hearted, if you’re at a speaker turn it down, because this is about to get loud.
