This improvised set reflects my fragile mood on a Monday afternoon in Brooklyn, after a few very busy and energe​tically demanding days.

Yela’s upbringing in England exposed him to a rich and vibrant music scene, igniting his passion for electronic music. His tireless digging through vinyl collections in search of abstract and unique tracks has allowed him to curate intriguing sets, in which he is known to explore the interconnectivity between a variety of different genres, tying his selections with elements of a tribalism, intricate percussion and a touch of cinematic flair. Six years ago, Yela returned to his hometown, Antwerp in Belgium where he recently co-founded the musical passion project Oridoo together with Hofmann. Over its first editions Oridoo has featured some promising upcoming local & international DJ’s behind the turntables and aims to deliver authentic electronic musical experiences from the heart.

"The warm-up slot has always been a setting that feels natural to me.
I have been a resident at Phonotheque since my years living in Uruguay up until 2017 (and I still proudly hold that residency today). Back then, playing on rotation across all time slots gave me the chance to experiment and grow as an artist. Later, in 2019, after moving to Europe, I also became a resident at Cartulis, and this ongoing rotation of slots has continued to this day in both residencies.

Playing at a club like Fold is both a luxury and a rare comfort, something that makes everything flow more easily and enjoyably.

Technical proficiency is vital but only part of the picture. Her style requires a deep connection with her records, one that lets her join the dots throughout hours of music to create a fluid, mesmerising journey for the dance floor. With Heindel on the decks, you might hear shuffling minimal mixed into acid house, or electro into dub techno, bridged by subtle, speedy transitions that never sound rushed or disjointed. You may not realise a new (and very different-sounding) track is playing until long after the old one has been mixed out. It's an ego-free method that puts music above showmanship.
