Michel Berger - Les Princes Des Villes (V4YS Bizarre Rework)

People often ask me what my favourite dance tracks of all time are, and it's always a difficult question to answer, because most of the time it depends on how I am feeling on that particular day. 
More often than not, 'I Want Your Love' by CHIC is one that comes to mind. It was one of the very first 12" singles I bought (I was 14 years old). 
Now...I know this track has been remixed, remodelled, remade, and re-edited a hundred times. There are versions that I absolutely love, especially the Dimitri From Paris version from a couple of years ago, and of course the Moodymann version from the mid 90's. 
I initially wanted to just do Part 1, but every time I got to a certain point I just wanted to hear THAT whole riff! So, I ended up doing this.

Wings - Let Em In  (Chuggz)

One of the many recordings of Chaka Khan with Chicago band Rufus, "Live In Me" is part of their 1979 album "Masterjam", produced by Quincy Jones. 

Warm and groovy, this song is also a bit "cheesy" to me by moments, so here is a nudisco rework, where I kept the grooviest parts while adding some punchier beats & bassline.

Rufus & Chaka Khan - Live In Me (V4YS Rework)

Released in 1983 alongside the album "Voyou", "Les Princes des Villes" has always been one of my favorite track by French musician &amp; producer Michel Berger.

Here is a DJ-friendly revisit, where I tried to retain the track's inherent groove, while beefing up the beats, tentatively adding a sweet electro' touch &amp; lightening up the sung parts. 
Let's keep having "des idées bizarres":)

Lucien Juanico Et Sa Trompette - Pictures Of Oceania (1974)

A Soul, Funk & R&B singer, multi-instrumentalist, producer and arranger, Leroy Hutson is probably slighltly less well known than the Marvin, Donny or Curtis of this world. He's nonetheless a cornerstone of this legendary 70's music scene.

Here's my refreshed DJ-friendly take of one of my favorite track by him, "Don't It Make You Feel Good", released in 1976 as part of the "Hutson II" album.

A classic rare groove cut from Jamaican singer Sonya Spence, "Let Love Flow On" was released in 1981 as part of her LP "Sonya Spence Sings Love".
Here is my nudisco-kind-of revisit of it.

A classic song from the legendary 1971 album Sticky Fingers, "Cant You Hear Me Knocking" embeds a classic Stones rock cut and a phenomenal Santana-like groovy instrumental jam. 

Mick Taylor later explained that this second part was not planned at all. Thinking the recording session was over, he started improvising and the band followed on. The sax and congas bringing this latin/groove feel to the jam.

No need to describe this classic 1985 mellow song from Bryan Ferry. There are a few cool edits of it out there, but I wanted something a bit more slo-mo/balearic-like, so here is my take of it.

Bryan Ferry - Slave To Love (V4YS Can't Escape Edit)

Revisiting a classic song from my cherished Canadian indie tribe, Broken Social Scene. 

"Lover's Spit" first appeared in 2003 as part of their second album "You Forgot I In People", before reaching new heights in 2004, with a new version featuring Leslie Feist on vocals. 
This second take was released on their album "Bee Hives", which is probably my favorite record from the band, an absolute masterpiece highly recommended if you're not familiar with them. 

As an aside, if you're also into quality independent movies, lots of songs of Bee Hives, including Lover's Spit, feature on the soundtrack of 2006 Ryan Fleck movie "Half Nelson", starring an unknown young US actor at the time, named Ryan Gosling. A beautiful melancholic friendship story between a disillusioned History high-school teacher and one of his student.

Valparaiso (Pharao Black Magic Edit)

Revisiting a 70's disco/gospel anthem, released in 1972 by Dorothy Morrison. 

Featuring in the legendary David Mancuso "The Loft" compilation series, this track actually came to my attention while watching HBO TV show "The Deuce", the latest gem from my favorite screenplay writer, David Simon (The Wire, Treme, Show Me a Hero...), who co-authored it with George Pelecanos. 

A deep dive into the seedy side of Nyc's Times Square area in the 70's, the show gathers a fascinating collection of characters, supported (as usual with David Simon's productions) by a splendid soundtrack. A highly recommended watch if you haven't already!

Noc Boots, the ever soulful NYC based rework and edit series has returned. Opening this Spring affair is French retouch maestro and Noc Boots series veteran V4YS with his creamy disco reggae interpretation of "I'm in Luv". Continuing the vibe is Moscow based rework specialist Rare Cuts and his breezy Brazilian groove "Branco Amigo". Sub37 follows suit with the melodic synth wave re-edit "Love Mission" Noc Boots curator Cloak Dagger closes out Vol.9 with "Come To Me" a filter heavy deep disco take on an essential 80's RnB classic! Keep Noc'n those boots!
