It’s good news: The leftfield dance scene in Zürich is getting more interesting by the day. Something is afoot in the little big Swiss city. Marc Hofweber aka Hove is one of the most promising names to emerge in the past two years. A crate-digger since his teenage days, Hove knows his way around the global clubbing circuit from a career as part of Round Table Knights, a hotly billed Swiss electronic music act. With his partner Le Frère, Hove releases Swiss made Balearic-not-Balearic records on their label Light of Other Days. Fusing his own sensibilities as a producer, Hove came up with this slow burning mix: Soaring synth vibes, electro funk, italo, ambient, a touch of wave and exotica. It achieves no small thing: it takes us closer to the sun.

Awesome Tapes From Africa introduces us to the classic house grooves of Professor Rhythm, a South African producer named Thami Mdluli who developed his own distinct style during the 80s and 90s.

Beginning his career as a member of chart-topping bubblegum pop groups Taboo and CJB in the 1980s, Mdluli's skills as a musician soon caught the attention of many others in the scene and he became a highly sought after producer. When working on albums for the likes of Sox and Sensations, as well as being an in-house producer for influential record labels like Eric Frisch and Tusk, Mdluli would include an instrumental of his own on each release. These tracks soon grew in popularity and out of a high demand from his fans, he decided to release solo instrumental albums in 1985 as Professor Rhythm.

Now with the help of Awesome Tapes From Africa, Professor Rhythm's album 'Bafana Bafana' is given new life. Originally released in 1995, the material includes eight tracks focusing on kwaito, a genre that emerged in South Africa that fuses house rhythms with African textures. Today these tracks sound as relevant as ever and undoubtedly work magic on the dancefloor.

'Bafana Bafana' is set for release October 20.

Sync 24 (Phil Bolland) is an electro artist and DJ, label boss of Cultivated Electronics and promoter of London based Electro night Scand. He has also recorded under the name MMT-8 with Ed DMX and Signal Type with Matt Whitehead.
 
Phil’s first exposure onto the electro scene as Sync 24 was in 2003 when he had two releases on Andrea Parker’s label Touchin Bass. In 2007 he started his own label Cultivated Electronics which has gone from strength to strength, releasing his own material along with artists as diverse as ERP, DMX Krew, James T Cottton, Radioactive Man, The Exaltics, Morphology and Silicon Scally. Distributed by Clone, the label is now an established underground purveyor pushing the electro sound for over a decade.
 
Sync 24’s production and sets combine dark and moody with the funk. With releases on Electrix, Solar One, C.P.U and his own Cultivated Electronics his music is being championed by respected Dj’s such as Dave Clarke, DJ Stingray and Helena Hauff. His sets are always geared towards getting the party moving!

The Purism label has already worked plenty with Enrico Mantini, but this time he's brought a friend along to help represent the Bologna-based team. Flavio Vecchi sounds right at home co-steering "Try To Get Out Of This", a devastatingly simple and deadly deep cut for heavy lidded house heads to get lost in the smoke machine to. Whether early in the evening or very very late, this is a big tune. "What U Do To Me" finds Nudge opening up the B side with a dreamy breakbeat house flavour for the after party crowd, and then "Dub Vandalo" maintains the stripped back but utterly punchy approach that makes this whole record so damn effective.

New York’s DJ Spider returns to Rekids with four murky vinyl-only cuts this November.

A highly respected label owner, DJ Spider is well known for helming esteemed imprints like Plan B, Sub Level Sounds and BTU music. As a producer he has made appearances on the likes of The Trilogy Tapes, BleeD, KilleKill and Vanguard Sound!, whilst last year saw him make his debut on Rekids. Returning to the imprint, the American artist follows DJ Deep, Jon Hester and FBK for the fourth outing in the Rekids Special Projects vinyl series.

Opening with ‘Mobius Strip Revisited’, a squelching bass line and rolling percussive loops underpin ethereal pads and airy atmospheres before an extended keyboard solo plays over inspired chord progressions and a grooved low-end to give ‘Antikythera Mechanism Part 2’ an improvised feel.

On the flip we have ‘Sub-Atomic Vibrations’, providing a series of irresistible lead synth melodies and crunchy drum compositions followed by ‘Struggles With Phantoms’, an unrelenting rhythm section lays the foundation for an evolving mid-range giving the release a stylish close.
