Merlin Bobb, New York native and celebrated DJ, producer, and music executive is widely recognized as a pioneer of house music. His groundbreaking contributions continue to earn acclaim, including his highly anticipated Boiler Room debut DJ set in 2023.

Merlin’s career began on the airwaves with his first mix show on WBLS, where he quickly became a favorite among dance music fans. His show became a landmark for introducing early Chicago, New York, and New Jersey house music to a wider audience. Constantly pushing boundaries with new sounds and techniques, Merlin helped redefine the art of DJing and laid the foundation for a remarkable career in music.

Beyond the decks, Merlin shaped the direction of house and dance music as an executive at Atlantic and Elektra Records. He was instrumental in bringing house into the mainstream while collaborating with and championing legends like Frankie Knuckles, Timmy Regisford, Roger Sanchez, Kerri Chandler, David Morales, Louie Vega, Tony Humphries, and DJ Spinna. At the same time, he worked with some of the biggest names in hip-hop and R&B—Missy Elliott, Brandy, Busta Rhymes, Pharrell Williams, Timbaland, Outkast, Dr. Dre, and more during his tenure as Senior Vice President of A&R.

Merlin also helped shape New York nightlife as co-founder of Club Shelter in 1991, a cultural institution whose influence continues to resonate across global club culture today.

Now, after years behind the scenes, Merlin has returned to DJing and producing, reigniting his connection with longtime fans and reaffirming his role as a vital force in the house music movement.

I’m someone who lives for music, creating full-length mixes for friends wherever my travels take me. I spin straight from the heart, no setup, no script, just pure inspiration in the moment.

Right now, I’m sharing these mixes with my long-time friends and a growing new audience. My roots go back to listening to the legendary DJs at The Gallery, The Garage, The Loft, The Shelter, Zanzibar, The World, The Tunnel (early years), Baseline, Funhouse, The Fever, Bonds International, 1018, WBLS in the early ’80s, and countless street parties. Those were times when people didn’t just nod their heads; they danced with everything they had, working it out until sunrise.

My love affair with music began in the early ’70s as a way to channel my energy in a positive direction. Music became my teacher, guiding me through life’s lessons and shaping my lifestyle. Later, my older brother introduced me to DJing at private parties in NYC, and that lit the spark that never went out.

Since 1981, I’ve been traveling the world, visiting nearly half of this big blue marble, and bringing the NYC flavor with me. Back then, most DJs stayed close to the tri-state area, so taking the sound to Africa, Asia, Australia, Europe, the Middle East, and beyond made me a rare commodity. None of those nights would have been as unforgettable without the support of my friends worldwide. To all of you: stand tall and take a bow, you’re part of this story too!

I’ve DJ’d through every era of recording media: 8-track, reel-to-reel, cassettes, DAT, Minidisk, CD, MP3, and beyond. This site is my way of sharing those live club sessions, often 5 to 8 hours straight, with friends who asked me to convert their analog tapes into digital form for old time’s sake. Here, you can also witness my artistic evolution.

My mixes are humble and honest. They carry the imperfections of live recording, a skip here, a rough transition there, because that’s the truth of the night. Over the years, I’ve sharpened my craft, but I’ve never polished away the raw edges. What you hear is real: the good, the bad, and the beautifully imperfect.

Every set was recorded live. Before 2001, they were recorded on magnetic tape; after 2001, they were digitally captured. Through it all, I’ve stayed faithful to the music and the dancers’ way of life, preserving the energy exactly as I felt it in that moment. Each mix is also my tribute to the artists whose sounds shaped the journey.

What you’ll find here are snapshots from countless nights behind the 3 to 4 turntables. Listen closely, not just to the beats, but to the words, the arrangements, and the emotions woven into each track. If you do, you’ll discover pieces of me hidden within the music.

DJ Doc Martin “The Resident Mixologist”

Spinning records for appreciative admirers for years has been just one of the many blessings in the life and music career of our “Resident Mixologist,” DJ Doc Martin. Born and raised in Connecticut and deejaying since high school, his specialty is Club Classics and Soulful House music, and many a club goer has left his live DJ events with great memories and sore feet!   

Doc has been on the air at WBLS (107.5FM) in New York since 2008. He currently can be heard mixing every Friday night at 9pm. He has also been involved in many successful Tri-State area projects, including serving as Grand Marshal in the 2018 New York City Dance Parade, and an appearance in House music legend CeCe Roger’s “When We All Pull Together” video. 

Doc spends hours studying music, looking for the one track that makes the listener say, “Oh wow, I haven’t heard that on the radio in a long time!” Doc says the ultimate thrill will always be the reaction of the crowd when he plays the right song at the right time of the evening.
