The Creatures project is a collaboration between Ryan Davis and Applescal; it started in Amsterdam and finished in Berlin. The project contains three different versions of one song and all versions were born out of a spontaneous session; each version can be seen as a further modulation and step in the whole process. Nils Frahm is one of the best artists out there in my opinion, with pretty much the best live show I've ever seen. But aside from all that, this was just a really enjoyable remix to work on because the original is such a great piece of music, and seemingly so well suited to what I wanted to do with it - which was to try and turn Nils' instrumental jam on his Juno, into something house/techno/club/44 compatible, but still carrying the class and feeling of the original. It was one of those remixes that just seemed to fit and flow easily, with minimum strain and maximum enjoyment on my part - usually a good sign for a remix (the one's that have to be forced never seem to quite get there).

There’s an exciting new gun marching in to the town of house music; his name is Viktor Talking Machine. 

Dropping his debut release on Super Flu’s burgeoning Monaberry label, the shadowy but talented young force - whose name is also seemingly based upon the ill fated Victor Talking Machine company that produced the very first gramophone record players -  fuses his feudal, rural experiences of Antarctic life with an arsenal of sound and texture on his refreshing ‘Abby’ EP.
 
Taking a strict mantra of ‘digital is death’, Viktor brings his expressive and deep sound through a selection of analogue instruments, galvanising his off kilter, alternative dance floor tomes with soundscapes and refreshing, naturalised washes of ambience and effect. Title track Abby – with its hollowed echoes and radar blips, sets the tone in minimal, ethereal fashion before gentle, crisp percussion brings tempo and rhythm, before snapping hi hats and bubbling, pulsating bass drive the track into the heart of any given dance floor.
 
Sven Tasnadi brings a hyper compressed analogue remix, stripping back the percussive elements and bringing the bass timbres to the fore, while Martin Waslewski comes up trumps on his equally ethereal take on Abby, but hardened by resonating drums, staunch kicks and a more perky, house purist approach on the original. Finally, Viktor awakens his machine once more Torrfel playing with fluctuating gusts of harmonics before acidic, hypnotic top line melodies bang heads with bubbling bass and stomping swing.

Little is known about the elusive artist, except that their name Viktor Talking Machine draws inspiration from the people behind very first gramophone record players. Another certainty is you will surely be hearing this name again. The music is just THAT good.

Some say Viktor Talking Machine is a German electronic duo, others say (t)he(y) was born in a magical and sleepy coastal village, or even the Tibetan Highlands, devouring all the sounds of nature, distilling  the deep sound which accompanies him until today.

'Abby' sets the tone for the release in minimal fashion before gentle, crisp percussions bring in tempo and rhythm. The snapping hi hats and pulsating bass give the track even more drive and takes it to proper dance floor anthem status.

Shortly before the Tibetan Highlands, a small clearing, dressed with black fern which sways to the rhythm of the sun, extends itself. Here you can meet the inhabitants of a sleepy coastal village, who had found the remains of a huge comet years ago. A viscous dark mass that they turned immediately into brownies with ice cream and pickles. The energy that was gained from the process drives huge machines, planting anemones and helps the bees with their mating rituals. Every 1210 years when the planets order in a circular orbit, a child is born into this magical world, who comes to change everything.
 
Viktor grew up in a musical family on the outskirts of a small mountain village. Early on, he discovered his love for nature and analogue soundscapes. He devoured all the sounds of nature and the vastness of the Antarctic wilderness and distilled from them his deep sound which accompanies him until today.
