Village Cuts sign off another solid year of Soho Radio shows, spotlighting some of their favourite recent releases. London-based Nigerian/Ugandan DJ Haruna joins them in the guest mix with 1hr of tasteful amapiano and afro bass selections.

Originally recorded in 1979 in Paris but only released independently in Brazil in 1981, Fernando Falcão´s "Curimão" was released on the "Memória Das Aguas" album. Originally a much sought after record, it was re-released by Selva Discos in 2019.

Its mastermind, Fernando Falcão, left Brasil in 1968 during the peak of military dictatorship and moved to France, where he lived in exile for 15 years. There, after working in music, acting, and sculpting, he involved himself in Jérôme Savary's legendary Grand Magic Circus, where he met his first wife, Valérie Kling. It was from this relationship that a partnership began between the musician and his father-in-law, the artist François-Xavier Lalanne, who guided Falcão in the process of inventing sound sculptures such as the balauê – a horizontal version of the berimbau string instrument whose sound was influenced by a water stream (since there was a hose soaking parts of the balauê wet during the performances). Much of this exploration and experimentation resulted in the album "Memória das Águas", from which "Curimão" stems from.

A long time fan of Fernando Falcão´s music, Daniel Haaksman now enhanced „Curimão“ with heavy bass and turned this rare groove into a club friendly DJ track. It´s #1 in the "More Black Atlantica Edits" series which will kick off on Man Recordings in Janaury. It´s predecessor, "Black Atlantica Edits" was released on BBE records early 2020.

Since 2017, Brikabrak has been pushing alternative clubbing experiences and open-minded music enthusiasts. The 11-headed collective has since blossomed into a nationwide community of artists and audiences, united in a borderless, genre-bending musical movement.

My "Memories of Brasil" mix was broadcasted on 1st of February 2024 on the "Soulsearching" radio show on Frankurt, Germany radio station "Radio X".

Since 1997, German DJ and music journalist @mrsoulpatrolde broadcasts weekly his show from Frankfurt to the world. His  radio show explores the soul of music and finds it in jazz, funk, soul, disco, dub, house, folk, afro, electronica, hip hop - genre boundaries are dissolved and various styles are fused together. 

Whether 120 minutes from their own record box, in interviews with international guests, via "Inspiration Information" mixtapes by well-known DJs and musicians or new introductions, with the background of wanting to share and communicate this music.
An acoustic journey with depth, cosmopolitanism and humor, 
without dogma. soulsearching builds a bridge from yesterday to tomorrow - two hours in which the soul is dancing.
