Since signing to Viper in 2016, Sam Lloyd, pka Blaine Stranger, has done more than just put his hometown of Sydney, Australia on the map. Technique Recordings have hit their century. One hundred releases couldn’t be passed over without something just a little bit special. Fortunately the label’s bosses happen to be one of the biggest D&B acts in the world, so to mark a monumental occasion, Drumsound & Bassline Smith have stepped up with a monumental release.

They roll straight in with Nicaragua. Ominous samples evoke a sense of foreboding before percussive synths ratchet up the tension even further. When the release of the drop strikes, you’re in dancefloor mayhem territory.

Then Serious Business delivers a love letter to the days when jungle ruled the raves. A reggae- infused intro is a signal for true heads to blaze up their lighters before full-on Amen pressure ensues. Classic samples are woven in to bring the sound of the acetate plate into the future.

Breakin’ Badboy goes a shade darker. Horror-flick orchestral stabs mark out time in the intro before siren synth-bleeps signal the nuclear meltdown of the drop. Dark drama with scientific precision, just like Walter White would have wanted.

Next, Neighbourhood combines state of the art production and classic dubby jungle into one spaced-out, step-switching monster. This is one to draw for to take the rave into some heads-down sub-worshipping skunking.

For Tech 100, Drumsound & Bassline Smith have provided a true reflection of the label’s place in the scene. Their pedigree stretches back into the nineties underground combined with mainstream relevance, respect to the old skool mixed with future production skills. With these elements to draw on, Technique Recordings have clearly got another big century of releases ahead.

Over the last 4 years since joining the Viper Recordings family, 25-year old Tom Mundell's career has been on an acute upward curve. Hailing from London town, Tom Mundell, aka Metrik officially joined the bass music elite with the release of his "Between Worlds" EP which featured killer joints such as 'T-2000', 'Genesis', 'I See You ft. “Hey SWEETFACE… is he dead?” The words were harsh and guttural, delivered through a pair of vocal cords clearly roughened beyond their age. “Nah, he’s still breathin’ “ came the reply, emitted through a face that brought a sense of irony to it’s moniker. The gravelly voice spoke again, thumbing through a wallet in his hands with a set of thick, meaty fingers. “Boss said we don’t get paid if he’s dead. I want to get paid. I got, eh, what’s the word… vices? Yeah, vices. I got vices that need fulfillin’, ya know?” “Ah, you got vices? ‘Course you got vices you dunce, ain’t no one sound like you ‘less they got vices. Now, quit complainin’ and help me put this perp in the trunk.”

The body landed with a dull thud on the metal interior of the trunk, and a small groan came forth from its nameless owner. Looking down into the trunk, SWEETFACE loaded a single round into his handgun’s magazine. “Cover your ears Pizzaface, I got vices too.” was the single command that followed. With nonchalant aplomb, SWEETFACE fired a blank mere inches from the captive’s head, awakening him with a start before slamming the trunk closed and plunging him into disoriented darkness. “You didn’t give me enough damn time, SWEETFACE!”, came the protest from his partner. Already walking towards the passenger side door of the vehicle, SWEETFACE flipped a set of keys over his shoulder at his bumbling partner. “Let’s go,” he said curtly, “and Pizzaface… make sure to shake the perp up a bit back there. Keep him scared. Hell, drive like you just had one of those “vices” of yours.”
