Fun Facts:
* This song is very closely related to Armed & Dangerous as they both share the same tune in the verses.
* George considered this tune-sharing conundrum a challenge and set about making this song and Armed & Dangerous appear to not be all that similar after all.
* The tempo is 138BPM and the key is B minor.
* George composed and recorded a demo of the guitar part whilst looking through Pete's lyric book during a marathon 72-hour session of studio work.
* Ben recorded the drums at the same time as George’s guide guitar track, which was played on the Ice Maiden plugged straight into the mixing desk.
* George was attempting to give directions to Ben throughout their performance.
* When Pete laid down a guide vocal track, Simon was rehearsing his trumpet parts in the background.
* If you listen carefully, you can hear little snatches of his horn being picked up by the vocal mic.
* Some of it is rather wonderful.
* George then added a guide bass track on the Plank, which in those days was tuned as a standard bass guitar.
* The bassline was unplanned until its recording, and has since become a main feature of the song.
* There is a touch too much trigger flange across the cymbals and liberal amounts of delays from the Alesis Quadraverb in this rather fun and dubby mix.
* Even the click track makes a tastefully calculated occasional appearance!
* It is not certain why this recording of The Joker was never finished.
* We felt that it has a curious merit all of its own, despite a few musical blunders.
* This demo version of The Joker was first included on the Signmaker album for its first re-release, in March 1992.
* There is a subsequent version of The Joker by Dark Company on their Alien Heat album.
* When Pete became too ill to perform in 1994, his replacement Andy would sometimes sing different and rather comical lyrics.

Sharing similar musical heroes, like Depeche Mode and The Human League, we quickly hit musical nirvana to create Fireproof. A homage to the electronic sounds of some of the greatest bands of the 80’s: Propaganda, Fashion, Siouxsie & The Banshees and the two above; it’s a song exploring unmet expectations of friends during difficult times.

Fire Jam Band Cover of Last Kiss by Wayne Cochran formerly also covered by Pearl Jam
I played / recorded this from my new Peavey.  I didn't do any post processing on the rhythm guitar or bass tracks (also played the bass through the Peavey - this thing is a beast!!)..    I did process the noodly lead bit in the beginning because it needed to sound wider than it did with just 1 lead track..  Probably should have just double tracked it and skipped the processing.

Side note: The vocals are processed all to hell and back, but the guitars are raw recordings..  I just set the levels to make them work in the song..

2018 has already been full of new music from one of our founding fathers, @Stanmusik, and we’re keeping the novelty rolling on this special Valentine’s Day with something quite different from his past releases. Though we’re only 6 weeks into the new year, we’ve already heard Stan’s collaborative EP with @Metasine, as well as the debut of his new project, @soundsminor, which is a collaborative duo with Jessa Raskin. Today, we’re excited to send a "solo" Stan release out into the multiverse, although he called upon some very talented friends (and even one of his students) to help birth ‘Splendor’, his first single of 2018. 

‘Splendor’ is a bright, warm, and uplifting piece that reminds us that the sun will rise again to relieve us of the desolate clutches of the winter season. Stan consistently delivers fresh, catchy melodies that inevitably get us whistling along, and Michael Symber’s contribution on the guitar really take it to new heights in this one. The combination of horns, guitar, and synths leaves us feeling fulfilled as the tune’s full-bodied melody resounds with an organic, refreshing vibe and tasteful pitch bends that make us smile. Featuring Patrick Iben (π) on drums, the catchy melody rides atop jazz-influenced percussion rhythms that make things quite sexy. 

As many of you may know, Stan, aside from being one of our WUMP wizards, is also an elementary school music teacher in Arvada, CO. The artwork for ‘Splendor’ was actually a collaborative effort between Stan and one of his 6th grade students, a neat little crossover of his two worlds. His student drew the beautiful roses, and Stan himself composed the artwork.
