During this year's Summer Contrast Festival I was originally supposed to play before Carbon Based Lifeforms, with a surprise guest appearance by Anisa Raik(vocals) and a dance performance by Para Gravity duo. I had a vision of what musical depths I wanted to explore with you. 

Unfortunately, as it happens in life, due to earlier delays of the performances, together with Gunther Schwarz we decided to play the closing B2B along with my guests, after Carbon Based Lifeforms. During our performance we took our time, not sure where our musical journey would lead us. All that's left after that day are beautiful memories and this mix, which I'm publishing almost in whole, because there were some audio/technical issues with our recording 😉 

But that’s what Summer Contrast is all about - a place where improvisation is a part of the festival's nature. See you soon!

PS. I played also at ChilliVilli stage on Wednesday and afterhours on Monday. I wanted to thank you guys for the many feedbacks during the show. Those are the best memories from that scene! ❤️

Our No. 224 comes today from an artist who accompanies me for what feels like an eternity and since then always knows how to inspire with his new productions. You can definitely call him a connoisseur of downtempo, because he stands for me emblematic for the rise of the subgenre and has shaped the scene globally with his countless pieces - no still does.

We are talking about Niju who is always good for a surprise with his very special, organic but mega fascinating sound. No matter if alone or together with Ninze & Okaxy as Wide Awake (@wide-awake-8), he always provides with his playful and atmospheric way in his productions, remixes, edits and also sets for special experiences on the dancefloors, living rooms, bedrooms as well actually on all ears in the world. At least on all those who can appreciate downtempo. Definitely for me as a big downbeat fan. Then, now and tomorrow definitely too. I'm sure of it.

His set recorded for us is emblematic of his sound. To me, the whole tape basically feels like a typical Niju production, only in XXXXXXL format. At the beginning velvet soft and dreamy, yet discreet groovy and later from and then also danceable. And all garnished with a good portion of hypnotic elements like cranky voices and partly indefinable sound fragments. Great. Definitely a typical Niju, who joins our podcast series with his 2.5 hour journey like painted.

Buckle up... I can only repeat myself, but you can expect a journey made for an afterhour. Not a phrase, not fake news, but honest words from a music loving Spessarter.

Unsere Nr. 224 kommt heute von einem Künstler welcher mich seit einer gefühlten Ewigkeit begleitet und seither immer wieder mit seinen neuen Produktionen zu begeistern versteht. Man kann ihn definitiv als Connaisseur des Downtempo’s bezeichnen, da er für mich sinnbildlich für den Aufstieg des Subgenre steht und mit seinen unzähligen Stücken die Szene global geprägt hat – nein immer noch tut.

Die Rede ist von Niju  der mit seinem ganz speziellen, organischen aber mega faszinierenden Sound immer wieder für eine Überraschung gut ist. Egal ob alleine oder zusammen mit Ninze & Okaxy als Wide Awake (https://soundcloud.com/wide-awake-8), so sorgt er stets mit seiner verspielten und stimmungsvollen Art in seinen Produktionen, Remixen, Edits und auch Sets für besondere Erlebnisse auf den Dancefloors, Wohnzimmern, Schlafzimmern….ja eigentlich auf allen Ohren der Welt. Zumindest auf all denjenigen, die dem Downtempo etwas abgewinnen können. Für mich als großen Downbeat Fan definitiv. Damals, heute und morgen auch. Da bin ich mir sicher. 

Sein für uns aufgenommenes Set steht sinnbildlich für seinen Sound. Mir kommt das ganze Tape im Grunde vor wie eine typische Niju Produktion, nur im XXXXXXL Format. Anfangs samt weich und verträumt, dennoch dezent groovig und später ab und dann auch tanzbar. Und alles garniert mit einer gehörigen Portion an hypnotischen Elementen wie verschrobenen Stimmen und teils undefinierbaren Klangfetzen. Klasse. Definitiv ein typischer Niju, der sich mit seiner 2,5 stündigen Reise wie gemalt in unsere Podcast Reihe einreiht. 

Schnallt euch an… Ich kann mich nur wiederholen, aber es erwartet euch eine Reise, die wie gemacht für eine Afterhour ist. Keine Phrase, keine Fake-News, sondern ehrliche Worte eines musikverliebten Spessarters.

Ich danke dir vielmals Niko für dieses besondere Set. Umwerfend tiefenergreifend und erfrischend gut. Chapeu.

One of the main reasons I play music is to share my own experience of its healing power with those who resonate with it. Being aware of this, I couldn't resist the inspiration I've felt over the last year and a half from discovering a new angle of ambient music, which has been profoundly healing for me. So, I was really happy when my friend @musiphile from the @musence.portal invited me to play my very first ambient set at @hive-festival! It was the perfect push I needed to finally heed the urge to create something of my own, expressing musically a huge part of my life path and my ancestry. 

I've spent months creating this and feel really proud and emotional about the result. After all, I had never cried during one of my sets, like I did with this one.  It feels like a deep and meaningful prayer to me. And I pray that this prayer reaches the hearts and souls who, like me, need these healing frequencies 🙏🏻

I want to express my deep gratitude for @kora, @unders, @naturritu and @RUMZAR for igniting the spark of inspiration in me to play this kind of music. I also thank so much Tatawari (Sacred Fire) for being present on this occasion with us. And, of course, my gratitude extends to all the producers of the tracks I played in this set - many creative and abundant blessings to all of you!!!

As the Lúnasa Gathering came to an end on Sunday evening, the spirit of the festival and the music remained. Nugi and Karliito (aka T.A.N.Z.) came together for an improvise back-to-back DJ set that captured the essence of the day, where the energy softly shifted from the high of the day to the deep, introspective rhythms of the night.

This downtempo set became the perfect soundtrack for the afterglow of this conscious festival, held in the breathtaking Mühlviertel region of Upper Austria. Just as the Celtic tradition of Lúnasa honors the first harvest, this set harvested the lingering vibes of the weekend—a blend of connection, celebration, and introspection.

Embedded in nature, while the sounds of the festival still resonate, this mix is ​​a reflection of the deep sense of community. Expect a journey through hypnotic beats, soothing melodies and a peaceful yet soulful energy that resonated with everyone who stayed to witness the day's gentle conclusion.

For our next podcast we present to you the Berlin-based, yet world-grown Caleesi. The “mother of dragons and lover of magical festivals”  is one of those artists able to tell multi-faceted and fascinating stories – expect a thousand and one legends in one musical pilgrimage in her sets. Her mixes beautifully intertwine sounds, rhythms and melodies that will teletransport you to eras, destinations and cultures yet to be discovered. 
Her sound builds on deep basslines and moody tunes - but for this podcast, she explored a more rhythmic side, including more pulsating and tribal melodies to her already smooth and spirited sound.

Passionate about music since his young age, Houssem Ben Romdhane or Vodoom took his first step in this world playing the lute and received the diploma of Arab music ...

Motivated as ever, Vodoom is not ready to stop in his artistic frenzy.
