ELLEN ALLIEN | IMMERSION @ ATELIER DES LUMIÈRES, PARIS

Spring is here and with it comes a fresh installment in the PAX-Series. For our march edition we have a mix by @samo-rane, a multi disciplined musician based in Berlin.

You might have seen him on line ups at “Art Bei Ton” events, where he is a resident Dj. But Samo Rane does so much more than Djing, he is also an electronic music producer and mastering engineer with a preference for ambient and techno music.

Being based in Berlin was not fully by choice however, in 2016 the Iranian unfortunately had to leave his home country and flee to Berlin, where he has been working and living since then. Samo has been using his musical talents and his work to express his political convictions. He runs a collective record label and podcast “mercyTechno” where he collects donations for artists and refugees and appeals against violence and discrimination in any form. In February he released his EP titled “Aliveness” on the label, again using his music to support refugees. We highly recommend you check it out, it showcases twisted dark sounds and his affinity for sound design and mastering really shines through.

Then onto the mix, it is a crazy 2 hour ride fizzing with energy that sucks you in and won't let you go. It's dark, unrelenting, very hypnotic but with moments of melancholy and euphoria, holding your attention and making you long for those dark nights from before, and those that are yet to come…

Exos is an artist with loads of experience: he has put out more than twenty vinyl records and four albums since he debuted at age 17. He has described Iceland, and the island’s raw and untouched nature, as the inspiration for the energy of his music. Exos always seem to surprise his listeners with his atmospheric electronics. Collector of every genre, from jazz to reggae, house to techno, @xelisabeex is fascinated by the sounds of the past as she is by the experimental and quirky waves shaping the future of music.

Moving freely in the flux of unpredictable creativity and constant wide spreading interests, Elisa has been mixing for over 15 years, beginning in her native Sardinia before moving to Milan. Her own productions have been much welcomed by international audiences and artists alike, gaining considerable airplay both on the dancefloor and on the radio. More recently Elisa’s releases have delved into techno and 90s UK rave sounds, with her love for acid driving her exploration.

Pär Grindvik joins for DifferentSound Podcast #126.

Pär Grindvik has been a central figure in the Swedish electronic scene since the 90s as record store owner, label manager and producer. In his artistic career Pär has released music across a plethora of acclaimed electronic labels, including a string of hits on his own Stockholm LTD imprint as well as Drumcode, with frequent collaborator Hardcell. Pär’s recent output has seen him contribute music to labels such as Semantica, Marbacka, Sinister and Dystopian. Founded in 2002, Stockholm LTD began as an outlet for singles and EPs from Swedish artists with a focus on releasing timeless electronic music. It has since developed into a hallmark for finely crafted electronic music from a range of international artists. Pär continues to serve as one of the most exciting and hardworking contributors to the scene. Every inch of Pär’s work, including labels, artwork, release info and music, is wrapped with heart and emotion, a quality which keeps the sparkle and curiosity alive within the ever changing adaptations of the artistic world.

Responsible for a huge part of the development of the world’s biggest and most reputed electronic music scene, Ellen Allien has been active wearing various hats in music since the late 80’s / early 90’s as an artist, a DJ, a label owner, and a radio show host pushing other artists as far and large as Apparat or Modeselektor, even releasing the debut Moderat Album on her own BPitch Control, to pushing some of the earliest Ben Klock and Marcel Dettmann records all the way to being responsible for close to the entirety of Paul Kalkbrenner’s catalog for almost a decade…

Her playful mind and openness to sharing knowledge, imbues her art with an energy and inspiration that’s been highly influential to the subculture across music, art, design and fashion in her native Berlin. A constant source of new ideas, energy and inspiration, Ellen’s comprehensive knowledge and intuitive approach to music is part of her genetic makeup, she has cultivated her own identity while also guiding the evolution of electronic music worldwide. Her future-facing sound takes influence from the early pioneers of techno, while painting a vivid, prophetic image of where we’re going next. Over ten albums, and countless singles, EPs, remixes and collaborations, Ellen’s carved her own niche in dark rave and techno, and presiding over a self-made empire and deep roots in the community. 

In her role as head of BPitch since 1999, and UFO Inc. since 2019, Ellen channels her ceaseless passion for digging into A&R, seeking out and nurturing new talent, alongside established artists and friends. She’s a Ellen Allien artist biography - 2023 dynamic selector who prides herself on her extensive knowledge of music and dance floors, travelling the globe as a DJ she’s played at every major club and festival on the circuit. She’s run the We Are Not Alone parties in her hometown of Berlin over the past years. The 50 hour raves over 3 floors began at Griesmühle and now home at RSO, with the party now touring worldwide. During the pandemic she channelled her energy into supporting the community and connecting with her fans over her intimate Balcony Streaming sessions, hosted from her home in Berlin.

Hi, I am Anders Abrahamsson, a k a DJ Anders!

Welcome to my World of Sound and Music! Born 1966, I fell in love with music when I was a five year old, where the summer of 1971 was plagued with the infectious synth lead of Pop Corn by the French cover group Hot Butter, and their interpretation of Gershon Kingsley's original from 1969. I've been DJing and arranging parties since 1979. 

Affiliated with NEMCOM [Norrköping Electronic Music Community, Est. 2002, Reg. 2003], for 16 years, as an artist firstly, then arranging numerous of events with two-figure number of event concepts/formats, and three-figure number guest artists through the years. Development of local DJs and artists is also a core activity in our community and association, taking place in our local #NKPGLearnSpace by NEMCOM.
