Ambient / Experimental Fall / winter 2022 - 23

The EDWIN Music Channel returns this week with the second show from Bristol-based NOODS Radio. Introducing @georgiavaz38 with a mix full of ambient spheres, spooked dub-zones, synth experimentalism, manic techno, and slow grooving trip-hop industrial, including tracks by one-of-a-kind artists like Kode9, Nazar, Demdike Stare, John T. Gast, and Nina Harker. 

To mark the occasion, we have also produced a LIMITED EDITION TEE with exclusive artwork by Bootleg Comics.

Ad aprire il sipario, ora come allora, è Hålbë.
Mentre il sole tingeva di rosso il cielo scivolando dietro le colline, le note ambient di Hålbë si aggiravano nel giardino del Castello, pronte ad accogliere e coccolare i primi ospiti.

Cloud of the mystery: ARIO

— Artist Intro —

London-based Ario is a practitioner of deep and inquisitive music both as a DJ and curator of his label Astral Industries. 
Although his remit falls within the deeper shades of electronic music, his overall aesthetic draws on a broader spectrum that prizes the synthesis of both instrumental and electronic disciplines. 
Depending on context, he traverses the lines and forms between the ambient and techno worlds. What is common in each, however, is his alchemic handling of rich organicism mixed with darker, more austere sounds. 
Speaking with an emotive sensitivity, there is a certain self-awareness that permeates his crafted soundscapes, which are as much drone inspired as they are psychedelic and nature-driven.

I'm George Silver (André Neves) musician and creator, from Barreiro Portugal.

q. is there a story behind the mix?
This mix is made entirely with my own music, through projects like Barata Cósmica, Lunnar Lhamas, Mayor of Vilnius, etc.

q. describe a favourite object in your living room...
My favourite object of the living room is a combination of my record player, because listening to music in a comfortable zone is an old habit.

q. are you working on any projects right now (music or not music)?
I'm always creating new projects, recently finishing my new album, and working on new ways of making live music.

Living Room n°43 ~ George Silver

I'm happy to finally share this journey, streamed on Radio Raheem during the latest UNIT episode.

For this one i decided, instead of mixing in the ‘classic way’, to create a sonic environment of more than 40 tracks; warping, ripping, and drawing details and frequencies from each one of them, creating 30 minutes of submerging sounds flow + one final credits track.

It’s probably one of my personal favorite works/experimentation i've ever done; sooo hope you'll enjoy it as i did while working on it.

Hybrid Sonic Exploration for Unit @ Radio Raheem 12.10.2022

We welcome Viennese legend and Neubau co-founder HEAP to the Warning Mix series. A true heavyweight when it comes to trippy electronic music. With his virtuoso DJ set, superb production and trailblazing label work, he has shaped the druggy yet intellectual midtempo sound of the last decade like few others. 

His mix runs the gamut from shamanistic tribal excursions through funky breaks to spaced out proto-trance and British rave flavours. A real treat for the connoisseurs out there, sure to make diggers and ravers alike smile - just like a real deejay should!

Warning #83 Heap

Devon Rexi return with Mini-LP “Biya Ba Man”, a new and improved take on the no wave steppers and post punk grooves of their debut “Tambal EP”.

The five track Mini-LP sees the band expand to a quintet, with originators Nic Mauskovic (drums and vocals) and Nushin Naini (bass and vocals) joined by Tobias Jansen on turntables, Lyckle de Jong on synths and effects and Goya van der Heyden on percussion.

The extra players collaborate to send Devon Rexi’s sound in new directions, amplifying the already extra-dimensional vibe. Synths and vinyl manipulation render a trip hop vibe to the post punk brew, reminding of zoned-out jams like Maxinquaye, or those heady early Mo’Wax.

Opening track “Sjikamo” sets the tone at a deconstructed hip hop tempo, samples spliced up like a classic Celluloid album. “Fargh Nimikoone” ups the pace with a funky 135 bpm lean, and Nushin’s harmonized vocal sounding ever more alien over the conga rhythm. “Marde Pir” closes the first side at another beatdown tempo, the drums flexing like factory pistons. 

The B side fires up with “Biya Ba Man Biya” - a proper steppers bounce, Nushin’s farsi singalong chorus is as catchy as it’s ever been. The Mini-LP concludes with “Koja Raftan” bringing plenty of Bomb Squad energy, crescendoing in fine maximal percussive style. 

It’s no wave, but not as we know it. With new members bringing effects and collage elements to the spacious minimal wave core, there’s plenty of avenues for future formations of Devon Rexi to explore.

The enigmatic Berlin based duo Inkasso serves controlled chaos. Indestructible approach to rhythm machines & synthesisers, unpredictable patterns with carefully investigated electro structures and dynamic detroitish loops.

Their music is released on Osàre! Editions, Kashual Plastic and other labels. Improvised lives shows they played at venues like „Zum Goldenen Pudel (Hamburg)“, „Garage Nord (Amsterdam)“ or „Arkaoda (Berlin)“. Frequent they collaborate with ML for live shows and a new album project.
