When was the last time you listened to an actual ‘mixtape’? You probably think of one of the many mixes inhabiting our digital social spheres, which you might give a quick click or a fast listen. Dutch Drum and Bass connoisseurs Lenzman & Dan Stezo go back in time with the launch of their ‘Soul Tape’, an actual 60 minute cassette tape meant for the discerning Drum and Bass lover.

The Soul Tape is a limited give-away. The hand-crafted package comes in a hard-cover box, with additional T-shirt and a variety of stickers - all with custom artwork by Team Blazin'. Besides that The Soul Tape is a ‘cool’ and fresh (but hyper-traditional) take on the mix-format, it stems from Lenzman and Dan Stezo's 90s ritual of making Hiphop tapes for each other in school.

The Soul Tape exhibits tracks from the world’s finest Drum and Bass artists, blended by Lenzman with Dan Stezo’s narrative slang and distinct voice-over. As a combination they have worked together since 2003, and recently increased their collaborative spirit both on stage and on record. 2014 saw their first release ‘Move & Focus’ together as a combination on the esteemed Metalheadz imprint as part of Lenzman's debut album 'Looking At The Stars.

Lenzman’s tremendous success in his genre and his tour the force around the world doesn't keep him from maintaining a close circle. Long time confidant Team Blazin' adds the artwork in the form of handwritten calligraphy which articulates the Hiphop aesthetics, the three artists’ connecting factor and their shared stylistic background.

The Soul Tape is not for sale, as it is an initiative out of love for the craft, the music and their heritage. The 50 limited edition tapes will be given away to fans over a period of time. As it's holiday season, starting with 10 units via a Facebook “Share to Win” competition. Head over to the Metalheadz Facebook page and you might win a copy of The Soul Tape.

The name Legion & Logam has resonated since their first output on the Program imprint. With vocal roller ‘House of Cards’ being picked up by some of the dance world’s leading tastemakers, it saw the production trio ascend to a very critical point in their career. And the glass ceiling has been broken; it was only apt for such rising stalwarts to be given the monumental 25th release in the label’s discography.

Following on in quick procession is ‘Afterthought’. Pounding against an ethereal, humanistic sample, there’s an underlay of subs which slowly builds and brays between breaks. They masterfully combine impact with a tightly woven composition; fiercely intricate yet without lacking substance, it pedestals the experience which each party brings to the table.

So, here’s to another release which sees Legion & Logam firmly on the radar for years to come. Their talent was already unbridled. However, combining this with one of the biggest and most revered drum & bass labels across the globe, they’re sure to become unstoppable.

With a combined history that expands over decades, Calyx & TeeBee’s discography is a journey which explores not only their own output, but the genre’s history. And yet again they continue their assault and return onto the scene with one of the most sought after tracks since its first play last year. The VIP mix of Species, is a deadly combination of both Serums original mix of Species and Blood Red, creating a monster of a VIP. The Doc Scott inspired track Redeemer, has the spirit of Doc Scott’s early productions, combined with Serum’s modern production but without losing that old school grit or the groove. Serum says of both Species & Blood Red are quite inspired by the original Virus releases. I sampled a lot of experimental electronic music from the 60s and 70s and used vintage style hardware to bring out the right character in the sounds’.
