HARAKIRI FOR THE SKY is a young Black Metal/Post-Rock band from Vienna, Austria. 
The band was formed by M.S. in December 2011 with the idea to perform Black Metal, that’s rough and melodic at the same time. M.S. wrote and recorded a couple of songs and asked his friend J.J. for lyrical input. That’s when J.J. joined the project as vocalist and HARAKIRI FOR THE SKY was born. In spring 2012 the band recorded their self-titled debut album, which was released via Art of Propaganda in October 2012. 
 
In the end of 2012 and in the following year, the band already played a handful of shows with bands like Fäulnis, Heretoir or Whiskey Ritual, that lead them to Austria, Germany and Italy. 
 
In autumn and winter of 2013 HARAKIRI FOR THE SKY recorded their second album „Aokigahara“, which you hold in hands now. 
As a tasty tidbit „Aokigahara“ contains Guest Vocals from other famous Black Metal musicians, like

HORNA should need no introduction. For over 20 years now, the Finnish black metal institution - founded by uber-prolific guitarist/songwriter Shatraug (SARGEIST, Behexen, et al) - have built a vast, virulent body of work beyond compare. Hailing the ancient ways, HORNA have always honored the underground with myriad EP and split releases. In the interim since their last album for W.T.C. PRODUCTIONS, 2013's critically acclaimed Askel lähempänä Saatanaa, the quintet have released two splits, with Den Saakaldte and Demonic Christ, and now arrives their highly anticipated ninth album, Hengen Tulet.

Their first album for W.T.C., Askel lähempänä Saatanaa served as a unique turning point in the HORNA canon. Not only was there a five-year gap between albums - almost an eternity in HORNA terms, considering their restless release schedule - but it was the first album to feature vocalist Spellgoth following the departure of longtime frontman Corvus. Although new to the HORNA camp, Spellgoth is a scene veteran, numbering Darkwoods My Betrothed, Black Death Ritual, and Prevalent Resistance among his resume, as well as classic session vocals for Baptism's Morbid Wings of Sathanas. With his arrival brought both a new and renewed focus to HORNA: Askel lähempänä Saatanaa brimmed with the ancient mysticism of the band's earliest work, and yet revealing new nightside shapes.

Now, with Hengen Tulet, HORNA continue to refine that approach, and yet bring back in the filthier textures of the Corvus years. Both sonicaly and songwriting-wise, Askel lähempänä Saatanaa was something of a throwback to mid '90s black metal classicism. By contrast, Hengen Tulet carries forward a similar songwriting aesthetic - surging 'n' swooshing speed, spiraling melody both majestic and malevolent - but reinvigorates a foul, fetid primitivism. It's still a supremely varied yet focused spin, compact (and caustic) as ever, but the headbanging, hard-charging tropes are surely a sign of HORNA's well-oiled machinery lately on the live front, where Spellgoth has cultivated no small amount of infamy for his penetrating performances.

The third glorious epoch of HORNA continues with Hengen Tulet, and yet further live assaults are planned for the rest of the year and next. (N.T.B.)

Art of Propaganda is proud to present the highly anticipated third album of Harakiri for the Sky, III: Trauma. Released in 2014 by Art of Propaganda, Harakiri for the Sky's Aokigahara reaped widespread critical acclaim for its startling synthesis of skyscraping post-rock textures and emotive black metal fury. Breathtaking and torturous in equal measures, the highwater mark that Aokigahara set has somehow been eclipsed by III: Trauma. Immediately, the album kicks off with an 11-minute epic titled "Calling the Rain," and indeed do Harakiri for the Sky summon forces both natural and supernatural. As the record winds through seven more equally scintillating epics, III: Trauma swells and swirls, crests and crushes, effortlessly dancing between genres with nary an ounce of self-consciousness. Not for nothing is the album titled Trauma: the emotional landscapes the band travail scrape both the direst depths and fleetingly blissful extremes of the human psyche.

But, as masterful as the band are at this point, this is not new territory for Harakiri for the Sky; they have been a steady work in progress from the start. Founded in 2011 in Vienna, Austria, the aim of Harakiri for the Sky has always been to create a unique mixture of melancholy and aggression, madness and meaning, and wrapped in alternately manic/mellow songs that bridged black metal and atmospheric post-rock. The band was initially begun as a studio project by erstwhile Bifröst member M. S. joined by vocalist/lyricist J. J., and has recently been expanded to a live lineup. With that lineup secured, Harakiri for the Sky then embarked upon four successful European tours with the likes of A Forest of Stars, Der Weg Einer Freiheit, and Agrypnie among others, encompassing over 20 countries to date. Now prepared to release the masterwork III: Trauma, Harakiri for the Sky will take this volatile-yet-beautiful new concoction on the road for the remainder of 2016: massive sound-walls and the barest of emotions await!
