Here is a 20 second excerpt of an original 78 rpm transfer of the song "Hatfield and McCoy Feud" from 1928. What follows is the same sample after it has been carefully restored using a number of analog and digital tools. Notice that the instrumental performances have been brought out to provide the listener with a more historically-accurate representation of the original performance. Artifacts that distract from the performance, such as surface noise and audible clicks, have been reduced to improve the overall sound quality.
