They may look like ordinary gals, but the Wallop Sisters (Suzannah Doyle, Jeanne Holmes and Mary Strickroth) pack a surprising musical punch with their luscious three-part harmonies, unique arrangements and eclectic selection of tunes from Motown, R & B and the Sixties and seventies to epic rock and big band favorites.  When these three throw down some tunes, you just can’t help but have fun.

Playing their own unique and quirky style of uke fusion, the Wallop Sisters have appeared around the Pacific Northwest, most recently at the Best Cellar Coffee House, Imagine Coffee House, the Imagination Celebration, Fireworks Restaurant, Tunes in the Dunes, Uktoberfest’s Eugene Saturday Market Concert, and the Gospel Explosion.  In addition, the Wallop Sisters organize and lead the Ukulele Cabaret and Sing-Along the first Friday of each month in Corvallis.

Suzannah Doyle is a composer, performer, and on-the-spot songwriter whose work appears in productions world-wide. She played by invitation at the White House in Washington, D.C., and appears live and on 23 albums with a diverse array of performers in the Pacific Northwest.  Her musical creations can be heard in network television, PBS, commercials and videos, in Piano Dreams: the Movie, in Jane Eyre, the Musical Classic, and on her latest CD “Ringtone Theatre: Volume 1” featuring short musical comedy sketches for cellphones and comic relief. 

Mary Strickroth’s first musical memories go back to family jam sessions in early childhood when she sang popular old tunes with her grandfather, father, uncle and brother accompanied by ukulele, accordion and guitar.  She studied music in college with a focus on conducting and composing and taught piano for many years. Famed for her creative musical arrangements, Mary directed and performed with two acapella groups, No Strings Attached and the Sonic Boomers.  She caught the ukulele bug in 2010, and plays the uke so much that her friends and family think she has grown an extra body part. 

Jeanne Holmes’ musical madness began with a plastic ukulele back when she was eight years old.  From there, she graduated to violin (and later fiddle) and guitar.  In her early teen years, she sang in a church duo, and took great pride in bringing the old ladies in the front row pew to tears with the old time hymns.  She has performed traditional folk, string band music, children’s songs and eclectic acapella with several musical groups, including the Big Chicken String Band and the Sonic Boomers.  In 2009 she returned to her ukulele roots, and started doing some serious strumming on that modest little instrument. Most recently she added composing to her list of musical ventures.

These funny and entertaining gals combine years of musical experience to create tight harmonies and imaginative arrangements. 

If you like the Ukulele Orchestra of Great Britain, the Pentatonix and Walk Off the Earth, you will like the Wallop Sisters.  

Who knew James Brown could sound so good on the humble uke?  Woah! I feel GOOD!
