For nearly a decade, electronic reggae-dub innovators Jon Wayne and The Pain have been crafting a unique sound, one that features a mesmerizing blend of modern age electronic beats fused with upbeat traditional roots reggae and a fresh layer of grooving funk to keep the soul moving in all the right ways. Alan Scheurman began making music as Santiparro in 2010 after a Wixarika elder gave him the name on a pilgrimage to collect peyote. Translated as “a lens that sees many things not usually seen” but aware it also signifies “magnifying glass,” Scheurman is certain it was given to indicate he was the gringo with big glasses, not some special seer. His first EP of bedroom recordings, Get Well Soon, on FM Dust, was influenced by his early experiences  in peyote and ayahuasca ceremonies. After its release, Scheurman relocated from Detroit to Brooklyn. In 2015, Gnome Life released Santiparro's self-produced True Prayer LP, featuring contributions by Will Oldham, Kyp Malone, and others. He later moved to Joshua Tree, occasionally touring in intimate settings. Spending 3 months each year in the Peruvian Amazon studying within the Shipibo tradition, he wrote the majority of 2018’s The Talon - exploring new territory with the help of producer J Ashley Miller. That year Scheurman became a father and releasing new music took a back seat, though a few singles would follow. In 2020, he released Shadow Dancer before organizing a series of pandemic fundraising concerts for Amazonians. Later he’d release a cover of Magic Wand by Little Wings for a Gnome Life cassette. In 2023, he put out a cover of Bonnie “Prince” Billy’s Squid Eye and returns in 2024 with Everywhere You Ever Were —  a reflection on the work that came out of a decade of study with the Shipibo and feels like a return to form.
