What’s 2 m tall, lives Behind the Iron Curtain, has 1605 reasons to run an awesome label, and flies? Meet UMEK, a techno legend from Slovenia.

UMEK is personally responsible for kickstarting the electronic music scene in his home country by first organizing illegal raves and then becoming one of Slovenia’s most wanted export products and the number one music ambassador to the whole world.

And he does fly! Around 100 times per year, visiting almost every continent each year. His gig diary ranges from dark underground clubs in Berlin to massive techno stages at the world’s most renowned festivals. 

Apart from making his name in the DJ booth, he’s also a tireless producer. He mostly releases on his own imprint 1605, and most of his tracks end up on the very top of Beatport’s charts. After more than 25 years as a professional musician, he decided to use his experience and skills in the entrepreneurial world. Together with his managers, he founded a music-tech startup Viberate (www.viberate.com), where they are building the world’s greatest music platform.

In a career spanning twenty years on the underground music scene, Louis Osbourne’s relentless ability to attract success as a DJ, producer, label owner and broadcaster has well and truly sealed his name an industry stalwart, but don’t let us simply persuade you with clichés - just listen to the facts.

A prestigious residency at Café Mambo in Ibiza from 98-99 added his name to the illustrious yet small list of jocks to hold down the fort at the legendary San Antonio sunset bar – including the likes of Steve Lawler and Pete Gooding. Add into the mix residencies at Ibiza super-club Amnesia, Birmingham techno mecca House of God and U60311 in Frankfurt, you begin to get an idea of the appeal many hold for Osbourne. As a DJ, his appearances alone read like a ‘who’s who’ of the best venues around the world – Watergate (GER), D-Edge (BR), Pacha (IBZ), Creamfields (UK), Global Gathering (UK) and throw in the Berlin Love Parade (GER) the list goes on and on.

It’s pretty hard not to indulge in lists when it comes to Louis Osbourne, there simply isn’t enough space to write up each achievement. Take the list of familiar and legendary names he’s lined up alongside; Loco Dice, Josh Wink, DJ Sneak, Derrick Carter, Dave Clarke, Damian Lazarus, Erick Morilo and the Basement Jaxx. That’s without mentioning the likes of Tiga, Erol Alkan, 2ManyDJs, Simian Mobile Disco, Ivan Smagghe and Derrick May. Believe or not, that isn’t the full list, which is testament to Osbourne’s ability behind the turntables and the demand he continues to find himself in, even after twenty years hard graft.

As if that wasn’t enough to fill his ever-expanding diary, in 2008 Osbourne started his own imprint called Mija Recordings. Attracting a mixture of well-established artists and fresh new talent, the label has fast become an underground powerhouse. Stacey Pullen, Jamie Anderson, Alan Fitzpatrick and Fish Go Deep have all put out records on Mija with many more also opting to work with Osbourne at Mija. 

Production-wise, he’s no slouch either. Working closely with co-hort Jamie Anderson, as “Osbourne & Anderson” or “O&A”, Louis has released on world-class labels such as Play It Down, Made to Play, Magnetic, Front Room and Jackmode as well as productions under his own name on Neurotraxx Deluxe, Artform and his own Mija Recordings. In 2014 Louis has already remixed Jesse Rose and Kerri Chandler tracks.

In 2013 O&A set up their new label ‘All Night Records’. The label is being run with the distinct feel of an underground 90s Chicago house label, putting out tracky club bombs with no fuss or extra hassle. It will be used as vehicle for O&A to hustle their own tracks as soon as they are ready to go. Each release will be hot off the presser, returning to a more old school vibe of promotion that allows the music to speak immediately and completely for itself.

Capping it all off in 2014 the guys are launching their new monthly radio show titled ‘O&A All Night’, where O&A take you on a journey through their brand of electronic music giving the guys the opportunity to showcase their sound.

What is certain about Louis Osbourne is that the Law Graduate has not only carved out a wealth of global experience behind the decks, in front of the mixing desk, and in the music business, but his biography well and truly speaks for itself. Osbourne isn’t a man who needs to talk up his achievements; he doesn’t need too, there’s a list of facts to prove it… suppose he’s a bit like his infamous Father, Ozzy, in that respect.

It was back in 2004 when Miss Connie and Angus McDonald started making beautiful music together. A series of singles at first then, in 2006, their self-titled, 3 x platinum debut album.  Spearheaded by a spectacular salvo of chart topping hits – UFO, PICTURES and I LOVE IT – Sneaky Sound System won ARIA Awards for Breakthrough Artist and Best Dance Release, the first of 14 nominations to-date.

Second long-player and #1 album 2 arrived in 2008 with yet more dancefloor slayers in the form of KANSAS CITY, WHEN WE WERE YOUNG, and the #1 UK club smash IT'S NOT MY PROBLEM. In 2009 I WILL BE HERE, a collaboration with Dutch superstar DJ Tiesto, took Sneaky to the top of both the US dance airplay and UK club charts.

In late 2011 album number three, FROM HERE TO ANYWHERE, arrived, the title referencing its creation in hotel suites, planes, and studios around the world from here (Sydney) to just about everywhere (London, Paris, Ibiza, Moscow). Accolades from critics around the world flowed: MTV called it “an incredible effort” and Sydney’s Daily Telegraph said it’s “a delicious feast of world class dance-pop songs”. A nomination in the prestigious 2012 International DJ Awards in the Live Performance category underscored their escalating international reputation.

In the swirling midst of albums and tours, Connie lent her vocals and lyrics to albums from superstars Jay-Z, Kanye West and Snoop Dogg, and in 2013 she was a guest mentor on Australia’s biggest TV show, The Voice. Later that year, in a News Limited poll of musicians and critics to determine Australia’s greatest all-time singers; Connie came in at no. 18.

And then of course there’s SNEAKY SUNDAYS, the beloved club night they have been running for over 15 years in Sydney and, for four years, at the world renowned Mykonos landmark, Scorpios. It’s a celebration of house music, from slow chugging disco burners to groove laden techno stormers…where you always feel like you’re in the middle of summer. The past few years have seen Sneaky releasing music more akin to the sound of these weekly parties, like SUMMERTIME MADNESS, ALL I NEED IS YOU, and I AIN'T OVER YOU.

2017 saw Sneaky Sound System release underground club tune DO YA THING and, in September, fresh reworks of the mega-smash PICTURES flew into the upper reaches of the ARIA Club Chart, spending four weeks at #2. In March 2018, new remixes of I LOVE IT followed, reaching #3 on the ARIA Club Chart.

In 2018 CAN'T HELP THE WAY THAT I FEEL was released on the venerated UK dance label Cr2.  It reached #1 on both the UK Music Week Club Chart and the Beatport Global House chart, and #2 on the Beatport main (combined) chart. It remained in the top 40 for well over a year and UK national radio, including BBC Radio 1, widely supported the track with over 1900 spins.

The single WE BELONG arrived in mid-2019, followed later in the year by RAISE, a collaboration with hot French DJ/Producer Watermat. Sneaky Sundays became Sneaky Saturdays as Bali hotspot Mrs Sippy became the spectacular location for Sneaky’s much-adored weekly party during July-September.

Angus and Connie are currently back in their Bondi studio - expect more releases during the year - and a return to Mrs Sippy Bali for their weekly parties. And, as always, they’ll be touring extensively, captivating audiences at festivals and clubs around Australia and the world.
