Michele Manzo - Burning Chrome

Michele Manzo - musician and producer who boasts international collaborations with Omar Lye-Fook, Georgia Anne Muldrow and Declaime - is the man behind the second release of Angis Music, italian label curated by DJ Samuele Pagliai. The EP presents 3 different scenarios resulting from a spontaneous live session, which reflects the multiple influences and symphonic approach of an artist with various styles. This work, inspired by the science fiction novels of William Gibson - godfather of the cyberpunk genre - opens with the song “Burning Chrome”, conceived as a nighttime escape taking you at lightening speed through the alleys of a city that is galaxies away. Continuing on to the B side we have “Chiba City Park”, where the broken beat and abstract harmonies create an ambience similar to that of those in Neuromancer. Finally, “Nebula’s Grace” is a cosmic jam where time slowly floats away in dub echoes and disappears into the depth of space.

Tartelet Records is proud to present its 2019 compilation ‘The Second Best Time is Now’, featuring nine unreleased tracks from its pool of esteemed artists. This year, all proceeds will be donated to the Natural Resources Defense Counsel, one of the world’s most effective environmental action organizations. 

Ho ho ho—Tartelet Records has once again reached into its secret stash of tricks and dug out some incredible gems. Following 2016’s compilation success with all proceeds sent to Syria’s White Helmets, the 2019 Christmas release has attracted an even broader spectrum of sound from nine of the label’s most honorable artists.  

Featuring Tartelet Records’ signature eclectic mix of genres, Christmas is saved with unreleased works by Wayne Snow and digitalluc, jitwam, Space Ghost, Glenn Astro, Kasper Marott, Verner, N.O.T.E, and label head Dirk 81. Each track has been handpicked by the artist themselves to represent their unique style in support of a bold charitable cause.  

This year, the Natural Resources Defense Counsel (NRDC) has been selected as the recipient of all proceeds. As one of the world’s most prominent environmental protection organizations, it strives to protect nature in ways that advance the long-term welfare of present and future generations. Tartelet Records is proud to support this important mission with its exclusive end-of-year release. 

Tartelet Records’ 2019 Christmas compilation can be downloaded for free but listeners are encouraged to donate what they feel is appropriate. All donations go towards the Natural Resources Defense Counsel to support our planet’s most pressing problems. To find out more visit www.nrdc.org.

MIMS is excited to premiere this absolute JAM from emerging artist Raquel Martins. Strong neo soul meets Brazilian inclined jazz from the London-based singer, guitarist and songwriter Raquel Martins.

21 years old singer/songwriter and guitarist Raquel Martins moved to London when she was only 17. The need to express herself through music appeared at a younger age while she was growing up in Portugal. Raised under the sun, she grew up listening to the endless classics from the Brazilian and jazz repertoire, but it was only when she discovered the world of contemporary hip hop, soul and jazz music that she realised she could create something new with all the sounds she had been absorbing over the years.

Influenced by the likes of Hiatus Kaiyote, Amy Winehouse and Brazilian artists Djavan, Milton Nascimento and João Gilberto, her music takes you on a reflective journey through themes such as personal development, purpose and individuality.

While "Real", her debut single, was an ode to new beginnings and to the pursuit of personal identity, "Freedom" portraits the moment where one realises they are no longer going in the right direction. This track describes the process of trying to free yourself from the people and old patterns that are making you drift away from your path. It’s the seek of peace of mind when you realise that you are becoming disconnected from yourself.

Self-released, "Freedom" will be available to stream from February 5th on all streaming platforms, plus download via Bandcamp.

Despite his frosty surname, Wayne Snow encapsulates the word “warmth” in every dimension of his being, both personally and creatively. Taking early inspiration from legends such as Fela Kuti and King Sunny Ade, he has united a global audience from his new home in Berlin, developing a contemporary take on the sun kissed, soulful vibes of his homeland Nigeria. You can feel this warmth blooming in abundance through every song and performance.

Wayne began to experiment with instruments at a very young age after being given a synthesiser by his mother. His first musical breakthrough came in the form of the "Red Runner" EP, released on Tartelet Records in 2014. Working with the widely praised producer Max Graef, the pair wrote both “Under the Moon” and “Red Runner”, which put him firmly on the map of the emerging future soul / jazz scene at the time. Shortly after they dropped the stunning “Rosie” EP as well as the highlight of Max’s album “Running”. These influential first productions led up to the release of his his debut LP “Freedom TV" which was loudly applauded by the music press with glowing reviews from Clash, Mojo, The Fader, VICE,  Boiler Room, Vinyl Factory and championed heavily by influential tastemakers like Gilles Peterson.  

Wayne is also responsible for the “Nightbirds” project which he joined together with globetrotting superstar FKJ and regular collaborator Darius (with whom he wrote the stunning “Helios” and “Lost In A Moment” for France’s Roche Musique). You can find his sublime vocal performances on productions with artists like Folamour, Neue Graffik, Noah Slee and the Circle Of Live collective, or via imprints like Brownswood, Dekmantel, Rhythm Section. He was recently shortlisted by both Crack and Clash magazines as the next artist to breakthrough, something soon to be validated by a stellar, new album in the pipeline.
