ICONYC head honcho John Johnson & Greyloop’s forever gets the remix treatment from Andre Sobota, Underground Ticket and David R Maddocks. ‘Forever’ is a modern house jam that pushes all the right buttons. The deep progressive house roller fuses synth chord stabs a pounding drums, clinical percussion and a pretty powerful lead line, perfect for those peak time moments.

First up we have Andre Sobota who gets us going by using rhythmic beeps and a mellow synth-stabs to create a driving rhythm before the atmospheric pads create a beautiful setting, which fires with all guns blazing to produce a club monster that growls. Combining the best of both worlds, he has come up with something unique and distinctive to make this release extra special while applying an extra dose of groove and warmth to this incredible tune. Andre’s mix stands for a fool proof and state-of-the-art piece of music, which will readily make you, take note and amaze in equal measures.

Next up we have non-other than Underground Ticket, famed for his high quality progressive house productions, whose interpretation sounds mature, effortless, and full of subtle nuance. Never one to be bound by any particular style or genre, this is them taking a deeper route. The combo delivers a bittersweet, quality fuelled, melancholic rework that still manages to get your toe tapping with each downbeat. 

Adding to our list of all-star remixers, we brought in English maestro David R Maddocks who knows a thing or two when it comes to mind blowing reworks, turning his mix into an irresistible track using the original elements with perfection. David layers more melodies and effects, whilst upping the flow with cleverly programmed tech percussion and his trademark FX elements, without destroying the essence of the original. His rework deserves to be branded ‘essential' in any sense of the word.

Premiere: Two Door Cinema Club 'Bad Decisions' (Purple Disco Machine Remix)

For over 20 years now, brothers Ali and Basti Schwarz have been moving the masses with their delightfully clever take on dance music – both from the DJ booth and from behind the mixing board. Two decades later, the brothers, known as Tiefschwarz, show absolutely zero signs of slowing, with their future-forward electronic music remaining as influential as ever. Teaming up with Yawk, a fresh faced Berlin artist on the quick trajectory (and kingpin behind the wicked Studio Kreuzberg imprint), the trio have crafted the latest release for Tiefschwarz’s very own Souvenir Music imprint. It’s a double header which shows a vibrancy in their productions whilst retaining the infectious, quirky dancefloor magic the label and artists are loved for. It’s also a rare appearance of the Tiefschwarz boys on their own imprint, and therefore a release that’s absolutely unmissable. 

A-side track, ‘North’ is a steady, mind altering slab of weirdo-tech house, with energy levels building and building from the very start. A track that just gets better and better with each passing minute, with more elements being added at the perfect moments. A disjointed bass stab keeps the cut moving forward, with occasional moments where the sounds simply fall of the track into discordant territories (clearly meant to cause the listener to take notice). Truly twisted, groovy and perplexing 4/4 music that will surely lock the dancefloor into a hypnotic state of dancing. 

‘South’ adds a bit of light to the EP with a friendlier but equally as dancefloor devastating affair made to capture the moments the sun starts to creep over the horizon. Matching the rising sun, majestic synths grow in strength over layers of incredibly clever percussion, combined the results create a sense of positive, ever-lasting tension for the listener. Mid-way through the track, however, this tension is abruptly cut (before returning) to offer space for each of the perfectly placed sounds to take the spotlight – each element equally as important and exciting as the last.

The extended level of expertise the Tiefschwarz brothers have collected over their careers, with a spark of additional imagination from label mate Yawk. Rather than a release of three producers fighting to tell their own individual stories, ‘North / South’ is the organically shared cultivation of three brilliant modern dance music minds agreeing on one simple subject – make them dance, and make it sound absolutely amazing.

Amine K is a beloved Moroccan producer who has been making enormous waves with his fresh take on below-ground dance music. His sound, equally inspired by his blistering sunrise DJ sessions at Burning Man as well as being locked in during the darkest debauched warehouse parties in Berlin, has been turning dancefloors inside out.  Amine K’s music is full of vibrant energy and creative magic which is fitting for both the sprawling desert landscape and the claustrophobic energy found inside concrete Techno spaces. His newest release, ‘Hyperion’ is easily one of his best, and is a perfect fit for Tiefschwarz’s very own Souvenir imprint. 

The original version of ‘Hyperion’ is a slow and steady grower. It’s a true sonic trip that effortlessly wraps itself around the listener and tightens its grip with each passing minute. Inspired by an iPhone recording of a snake charmer’s flute during an outing in the Medina of Marrakesh, ‘Hyperion’ emulates the snake charmer’s flute into a twisted synth melody. The melody carefully snakes itself around the track with growing tension while incredibly arranged percussion keeps the tune moving with dynamic energy. ‘Hyperion,’ like the Greek God the track is inspired from, is nothing short of powerful and commanding. 

Remixes from Belgian Duo Raw District (Crosstown Rebels, Innervisions, Souvenir) and Berlin’s Mathias Schober (aka Show B of Lossless) provide incredible interpretations of the original take, each with a perspective offering the EP even more diverse power. Raw District’s remix provides an expert level of musical intensity with cleverly placed melodic synth lines guaranteed to put the dancefloor into a captive spell. Mathias Schober takes the tune deep into the rabbit hole with a reduced version designed for the weirdest hours of the after-party. The EP is complete with a ‘Dub Version’ from Mr. Amine himself which simplifies the tune into the most essential groove.

Roberto Traista is been causing quite a stir with his melodic influenced driving progressive house productions. He has seen his works released on labels like PHW Elements, Hydrogen and Clinique amongst others, and has gathered massive support from the world’s finest.

With his return to ICONYC after his huge successful Air EP, Roberto turns it up a notch and shows maturity and musical development, as we kick off with the deep, hypnotic warm melodic layers of ‘Broken Promises’, interspersed with subtle effective percussion while the drop is a glowing bucket of emotions. Roberto manages to keep the energy up, subtlety allowing the driving house feel to shine thru over the many layers and textures to create a beautiful soundscape.

Next up we have 'Dark Anger' which opens with stunningly textured deep pads that warm the soul before a strong melodic infused bassline provides the base for this inspired piece to play out in delayed glory. Intermittent drums and soft soaked percussions in reverb come together to create a structured sphere of sonic geniality. Essential stuff!

With pounding melodic arrangements that are so warm and driving, Roberto once more reinforces his status as a true craftsman with the excellent ‘Broken Promises EP' and really shows that there're no boundaries, as this beautiful melodic gem guides you to a dreamy warm pad laden, arpy melodic hug of a release that will leave you with many smile induced moments! Roberto Traista’s ‘Broken Promises EP’ sees a worldwide release on December 4th, 2017 exclusively via ICONYC.
