Directly from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, this set was created by DJs Yule and Alive Pop-Up during carnival in pandemic times. The inspiration came to Yule a few years ago when she saw some dj sets like Projeto Mujique and Vovóhop. They sought ultra-popular Brazilian references and tried to express some of the things that you would, for sure, hear in Brazilian streets during carnival. For those who have never been to a Carnival in Brazil, it is nothing more (and nothing less) than a total and endless mess of costumes and unsynchronized music. Through lots of different drums and live versions of extremely famous songs they try to bring this nostalgic feeling: complete madness. Mixing Brazilian popular styles was Flavio Cesar's idea. Music researcher, owner of a legacy of 5,000 records, and one of the most beloved guys in the Brazilian vinyl scene, Alive Pop-Up is also an itinerant record store project, open to the 4 corners of the planet, traveling and receiving international vinyl buyers here in Brazil, and passing our heritage through discotheques and exhibitions. Flavio was not only essential for the music selection but also participated in the first minutes of the set as a great Master of Ceremony, opening the party! Some of these lyrics are extremely politic, as in Mangueira's Samba, Or Veronez live street recording, and others extremely sexy and flirty. This set tries to go to every single corner of Brasil. Nicola Cruz is releasing the remixed version of his critically acclaimed 2015 album, Prender el Alma.  It will be released on June 10th on ZZK Records, and features remixes by 12 artists including label-mates History of Colour (El Buho & Barrio Lindo), Chancha Via Circuito, and sister label-mate EVHA.  

Inspired by electronic music techniques and local Andean music and culture, Cruz created the original sounds in Prender el Alma layer by layer, instrument by instrument, drum by drum.  A cast of eclectic Latin American artists seamlessly pick up where Nicola left off, adding their unique flavor to each individual track.

In the spirit of its creator, Lézard Vert (Green Lizard) is much more than a music band. It hails a concept of participation, a record label in itself, of which it boldly assumes the parenthood, but where each musician plays on musical pieces of their peers. A concept that shaped from the Carrousel experience. During a prolonged retreat in Manapany “country of Lézard Vert”, Zoun then started to lay the foundation for the album eponymous album. Zoun concurrently follows the career of two accomplished musicians, namely; Teddy Baptiste and Kiki Mariapin, with whom he occasionally performed, with Gilbert Pounia who provoked the spark leading to the encounter with Philippe De Magnée, a Belgium born sound engineer, invited on Reunion island to record Ziskakan.

Pioneer of the electric maloya, agile composer of various influences, Zoun, is proud to see his Lézard Vert resurface on turntables. This new version initiated by Wazis Pounia gave birth to a collaboration between Ziskakan and the Mauritian label, Babani Records. The remastering has been entrusted to Neil Combstock, sound engineer of the label, based in the United Kingdom and the illustration to the Mauritian artist, Guillaume Clarisse, all under the art direction of Avneesh Bacha. This reissue in 33turns vinyl discs and streaming has the merit of bringing to the ear a whole new generation, recorded in 1983, a key era in the history of Reunionese music. With the passing of time, a number of musical treasures have been unfortunately lost, forgotten, or never even recorded. Thus, when the opportune presents itself, it is of our duty to honour them with a re-publishing.

With his first album dating back to 2001, Poirier is a prolific, creative and eclectic Canadian producer / musician with a 20 year journey of creating music. Constant in his albums and DJ performances is a desire to build bridges between different languages, communities, and cultures. His open, uninhibited musical mind means that his works bend boundaries, resulting in compositions that mix several styles and eras. He now has produced a total of 11 albums and many EPs with labels such as Ninja Tune, Nice Up Records and, more recently, Wonderwheel Recordings. Active in Montreal, his successful monthly dance party Qualité de Luxe is dedicated to African and Caribbean music, attracting crowds for over six years. Poirier is also the man behind Bounce le Gros and Karnival, parties with legendary status in Montreal nightlife history. 

As usual with Poirier, it's hard to pin point all the genres and references on his new album. Soft Power has an irresistible warm vibe that will make anyone move and dance. It's warm, it's acoustic, it's electronic. Tracks "Café Com Leite" feat. Flavia Coelho and "Me Leva" feat. Flavia Nascimento transport the listener to Brazil while "Sim Bombei" and "Sowia", both featuring Samito, while the Sounds of West Africa influence "Nidiaye Sam" feat. Daby Touré. Then it’s across the Atlantic to Montréal and Mexico with "Contigo" feat. Boogat, while "Pull Up Dat" feat. Red Fox is a Jamaican jam perfect for any dancehall party. "Nou Pare" feat. Coralie Hérard captures the heart of Haiti while "Do Kase" feat. Mélissa Laveaux fuses Canada and France with Haïti in the background. In his instrumental tracks, Poirier throws an afro house party at 4am with "The Junction", travels back in time on an island in the Mediterranean Sea circa 1987 with "Forma", and, finally, relaxes in the sun with "Coconut Beach."
