Baset, a young producer from Egypt, presents “Lustmolch”, his first EP on Inner Symphony. It’s a 3-track EP that delivers on all its promises – it’s intense, compelling, detailed, and has an air of mystery that invites multiple listens. 

The title track and opener, “Lustmolch”, immediately establishes a melancholy, determined tone. It places the EP in the space between Ethereal and more traditional techno, pairing a powerful bass rhythm with a trance-like melody. Tal Fussman’s remix of the track follows, where it provides a contrast to the simplicity of the original. He introduces a range of subtle variations that utilize the entire soundscape, with details that reveal themselves with each listen. The EP ends with the final track, Höllisch, which again takes us forward to a place of higher intensity. Focused on layers of dynamic bass, the track gradually introduces higher layers, before a finale that overwhelms and then pulls back with masterful control.

The “Lustmolch” EP is a solid release, providing 3 different yet recognizably consistent tracks. While it stays within the boundaries its genre, it shows that there is a lot more to come from Baset as they grow as a producer.

The title track ‚always on vacation' is a mixture of nu disco vibes and house sounds, while adding an eclectic voice on the top. The break beat melodic track ‚winter is coming' couldn't have a more fitting name, as this is a very melancholic one. Last but not least we have ‚who needs money, I like sleeping next to you', which has got a special blend of a very driving bassline, spheric sounds and some trancy leads. The EP is completed with two wonderful remixes, Rauschhaus gives his unique melodic touch to ‚who needs money, I like sleeping next you' and Circle of Life transforms ‚winter is coming' in a more danceable four to the floor version.

GNTN and Artche, hailing from Germany and the UK respectively, have both been bubbling up in the world of European techno for the past few years, collaborating most recently for an EP on Einmusika and individually releasing on labels like Stil Vor Talent, Suara, and Terminal M. Their debut EP for Yoshitoshi, Plastic Paranoia, brings together the dark, melodic sounds they are known for and incorporates elements of techno and deep house to create a swirling mesh of exhilarating sonic textures. The title track shines with its gorgeous vocal, proving that vocals and techno are not mutually exclusive. It possesses an absolutely stunning breakdown that is sure to have crowds singing along, and builds into a sweltering groove to keep feet moving. Expressions is all instrumental, interweaving a series of gorgeous synth melodies and pads that coalesce in an atmospheric and elaborate soundscape. It's a master class in maximalist production, each element shining through the multitude of layers happening at any given time. To finish things off, Spaniard Aaryon, who is no stranger to the label, gives us a deep, leftfield remix that showcases his propensity for abstract sound design. It's a subtle take on the original, but Aaryon gives it enough flavor that it feels fresh and unique. Altogether, the package displays a variety of stellar music that feels perfectly at home in the Yoshitoshi catalogue.
