… The third and final interpretation of ‘Die Like A Hero’ is supplied by Subandrio who is making his second appearance on Balkan Connection. The Sri Lankan producer first appeared on the Serbian imprint with his remix of Napalm & d-phrag’s ‘For The Love of Machines’ in June of this year. It preceded his release on Perspectives Digital where he was announced as one of the winner’s in the labels ‘Outliers’ remix competition. Subandrio is still vastly underrated in the underground, his style is quite in line with what’s currently fashionable in the progressive new school and it’s only a matter of time before he fully breaks through. There’s a slew of great material forthcoming so the remainder of 2015 and on into 2016 looks quite promising for him. Can’t say I’ve ever heard something from Subandrio which didn’t sound great and he’s turned in a superb remix of ‘Die Like A Hero’ to close the release out. His rough and rugged basslines cut though nicely here and some well placed, delicately polished melodies add a very ethereal touch. A dramatic break pushes it over the edge with a smooth exhilarating build welcoming the return of those perfectly contoured grooves. Just a massive remix from Subandrio again and a great end to the release. Don’t miss it.

Known for his journey-esque creations his interpretation once again meets that storytelling reverence he's so beloved for. GNTN and Artche, hailing from Germany and the UK respectively, have both been bubbling up in the world of European techno for the past few years, collaborating most recently for an EP on Einmusika and individually releasing on labels like Stil Vor Talent, Suara, and Terminal M. Their debut EP for Yoshitoshi, Plastic Paranoia, brings together the dark, melodic sounds they are known for and incorporates elements of techno and deep house to create a swirling mesh of exhilarating sonic textures. The title track shines with its gorgeous vocal, proving that vocals and techno are not mutually exclusive. It possesses an absolutely stunning breakdown that is sure to have crowds singing along, and builds into a sweltering groove to keep feet moving. Expressions is all instrumental, interweaving a series of gorgeous synth melodies and pads that coalesce in an atmospheric and elaborate soundscape. It's a master class in maximalist production, each element shining through the multitude of layers happening at any given time. To finish things off, Spaniard Aaryon, who is no stranger to the label, gives us a deep, leftfield remix that showcases his propensity for abstract sound design. It's a subtle take on the original, but Aaryon gives it enough flavor that it feels fresh and unique. Altogether, the package displays a variety of stellar music that feels perfectly at home in the Yoshitoshi catalogue.
