For the latest episode on Madrid’s Radio Relativa, the focus is a record label that is not just synonymous with the TB303, that silver machine is eponymous! Of course, we are talking about the mighty @030303recs.
Sit back and enjoy two ours of acid spiked electronics peppered with lively chat. From the first machinations of 030303 and its partnership with Margherita Records to Rephlex parties and Lowland festival memories, this is a journey deep into the heart of a Dj collective and label that has drawn on a widespread of influences whilst casting an ever-growing net of inspiration across the world.

Radio Relativa #22 - Interview - 030303 Records

@suction-records recently crossed a pretty incredible milestone. The Canadian imprint, founded by Jason Amm (@solvent) and Gregory De Roche (@lowfish), has just celebrated its 25th anniversary. For more than two and half decades the label has curated a wealth of music, unearthed unheard artists and brought smiles to the faces of the electronic faithful.

WE FORFEIT, after a serious amount of datebook duelling, managed to catch up with Jason just before the Christmas. The result? A two hour show that charts the very first synthesizer steps of Solvent and Lowfish, the growth of their unique style of electronics and the evolution of the imprint and sound. 

From High School encounters and fax machine correspondences to Detroit recognition, Solvent maps how two Canadians broke onto the scene in the early 1990s. From these humble beginning, Amm describes new directions in his sound and the elation at discovering Rx-101. As Suction has evolved, so does the conversation with synth wave, coarse acid and braindance musings all coming to the fore.

It’s been a month of loadsa music. 
A few weeks back, we were lucky enough to share the booth with the always excellent Neud Photo. Robbie hopped on the train and made it by the skin of his teeth to Luv Bar where the pair served some a cocktail of electro, new beat and even some italo. In this month’s show we’ve some tracks that were in the bag for Barcelona, but time said otherwise. Gems from Aleksi Perälä, Jared Wilson, Featherstone and Obsolete Music Technology are just a handful them. Thanks to both Nico and Luv Bar for making it happen.
Rendez-vous abound in this episode, meetings with ArD2 in Granada (alongside fights with record store owners, dancing in The Hague at the IFM festival with a great gang, all of these interactions are charted through tracks by Heinrich Mueller, Tandy Ogmo and Body Power.
A veritable glut of new music is included in this month’s show, tracks from far and wide. Homegrown talents features prominently. 22 Recordings are here with three tracks of new beat scented chicanery and Valencia’s Fill-Ex and Soil with the haunting Grendel version of Beastial Mouth’s “In Ruins.” . Pearls of The Netherlands’ house and techno scene of the 90s are dusted down, Anacalypto Records doing the heavy lifting with a fantastic compilation with two tracks selected.

As the Summer draws in, the music keeps flowing here at WE FORFEIT. For June, we have a label we love. We have @gatedrecordings. Founded in 2019 by Dj @node and Jadey Smith, Gated has become an imprint of serious intent in the world of electronic music. 

This month, we’ve been lucky enough to speak with one the bosses of Gated, Node, about the imprint and what makes him tick. In a conversation that reveals all, and then some, we go back through the Gated catalogue and pick out some personal favourties from artists like Sound Synthesis, The Jaffa Kid and Dip Shim

In the second hour, Node takes the helm with a mix of serious proportions with gems from acid, breakbeat, electro and loads more. Expect unreleased material as well as tracks from Acidulant, Cityman Productions,  and Wave Function.

We're back! WE FORFEIT return to Radio Relativa for our 50th installment. Quite the milestone. The half formed memories and hours of television missed, the joys one hundred hours spent trying to put a sentence together. 

In all seriousness, or some shade of it, we’re delighted to have reached such a number and are back in the bowels of tradition to bring you our favourite tracks of 2024(ish)

Serendipitously, or through rigorous and frightful struggle, this edition has a warm numerical suffix sensation. Twenty four tracks of 2024. Wait, it's twenty six. A forward looking and enthusiastic twenty six to ring out the last twelve months.

Radio Relativa #50 - Top Tracks of 2024

This month, we have a two hour recording of a session of over four hours that I did with a good friend and a great musician; Paul Smith better known as Leonid. We had the pleasure of sharing the booth again, this time at Nuevo Montacargas.

Leonid is an Irish producer who has been based in Madrid for a few years now. If he is not releasing records on labels like Statik Entertainment, Sistrum Recordings, Dolly Records, Lunar Disko Records, Photic Fields, Freebeat, Eleve, D1 Recordings and more, Leonid is playing in the best places in Europe like Berghain (Berlin), Tresor (Berlin) and more clubs in France, Croatia, Greece, Spain and of course Ireland.

This two hour session is focused on styles such as acid ambient, bleep, electro, house and techno with the softer side of these genres explored from the booth.

Disassociation Song: The Mix

WE FORFEIT know how to do Christmas. Long silences with loved ones, gritted teeth and processed ham. In this tradition, and that of making some mixes to ease the season, the lads are back at the stocking filling coalface to bring listeners messages of love and music. Through fictious serendipity, a hackneyed flair for rhyming couplets and a bit of organisation, the lads have a very special guest  : Astro Chicken’s @hyboid. 

A dark December night, a cold wind whips the city,
The pavements soaked, roads wet, dirty and gritty.
Winter claws a lone passenger, a passenger who hurtles through the rain,
A passenger who feels no misery, a passenger who feels no pain. 
Disembarking, the collar is given a flick,
Chris’ head is down, his step is quick.

This Christmas weather bites to the bone
And our intrepid traveller is not set for home. 
He’s off recording a two hour set,
One filled with electronic music and banter I’ll bet.
The streets are dark and the headphones are in,
Chris’ attention is grabbed, “Could that lad be my twin?”

Thud. Confusion. A bump between two.
