Labour of Love gives the opportunity to our guests to showcase sounds that are near and dear to their hearts or might not often be given the chance to play regularly.

Our first guest stepping up to the plate is, Meanjin local rising star Scalymoth. Who is taking us on a journey through hard percussions and all things evil, in her own words - "I went full evil with this mix cause like, don't get to play this dark stuff out very often but I love it"
  
Over the last year, she has quickly cemented herself as one of Meanjin stapes. supporting the likes of Xclub, Jad & The  & Iti while playing at such events as Fem Fale, S.A.S.H, Yonder Music Festival & General Press. 

Her most recent feat has seen her join forces with many of Australia's talented South Asian artists to create a community-based creative collective called "Kerfew", with the main focus being to uplift their communities and showcase the wonderful talent they have to offer.

She has now begun to dip her toes into the world of producing and we couldn't more excited to see what is to come with releases on Besancon Rhytimique Club and Backpocket Slammers, she's definitely on our ones to watch this year.

dj excel is a DJ, artist and producer currently based in South London. An active member of SODAA, a non-hierarchical collective looking to develop a model for a decentralised community operated venue. With tunes already supported by object blue and DJ Pitch, they are already asserting themselves as one of the most exciting producers around town!

Bristol-based producer QGB returns their second album ‘A RECKONING’ out on the 8th April via their PRESENT TENSE imprint. The album was recorded over a three year period, with another year to get it together to release it. 

As mentioned to Accidental Meetings recently, GQB said of the album, “it’s aggy and a bit broken but I hope there’s also grooves and danceable sections in there and it’s not all heady self indulgent nonsense. I guess each track was its own little process but a lot of what inspired me at the time was working with more generative techniques, basic chance/randomness not wanting it to be academic and dry but making it feel a bit alive and unpredictable.”

This is their first release on the label since 2018’s release of ‘Hornet’ - a record which was supported by the likes of Truants, Call Super, and Resident Advisor to name a few. Slowly becoming a go-to producer for your favourite DJs, we’re super excited to share one of, ‘PIGS’ from the album - one of the most in-your-face, all encompassing tracks on there.
