"What Came First" is a new label dedicated to Electronic music which has been set up by the people behind Egg London club venue.

With the dance floor in mind, WCF aims to introduce rising new talents as well as working with established artists across a range of musical genres from techno to house and chill-out to alternative. 

It is a great time for Egg London to look how far we have come musically over the years and for the label artists, inspired by the unique energy of the club, to synthetize this vibe into their productions and music that we all can enjoy.

Label - What Came First

The new What Came First release is from EGG favourite D-Unity who comes fresh from a collaboration with Matt Sassari on Carl Cox’s label Intec.

Canadian artist D-Unity has previously released on a wide selection of labels ranging from Toolroom and Suara to Yoshitoshi, Armada and his own Unity Records. Often at the top of sales charts, his Techno anthems are regularly supported by everyone from Eric Prydz to Danny Tenaglia.

Track one “Crobar” has a rolling groove with fast flowing mechanical hi-hats and uplifting vocals that complement the tracks otherwise dark energy. Finished with low end bass stabs that twist with acid modulation, this is enthralling piece of music is perfect for club sound-systems and packed dancefloors.

Second is “Don’t You Want” that starts with tense pads and a pounding kick drum before unleashing the lead vocal. Hard-hitting in every sense, this track is filled with forward momentum and packs a real punch. Not for the faint hearted, this cut of up-tempo Techno is the perfect party starter.

Here at Toolroom Records, we culminate a massive ten week campaign charting a decade’s worth of releases with The Anniversary Remixes of one of our most influential tracks, Dave Spoon’s ‘At Night’.

Dave Spoon scored a massive dance hit with the release of ‘At Night’ in 2006. Featuring on no less than two dozen separate mix albums, the genre-bending ‘At Night’ epitomised the Toolroom sound of the time, merging elements of electro, house and tech to create a club favourite.

Now, in reverence to the part the track has played in Toolroom’s history, ‘At Night’ receives the remix treatment from Shadow Child and T. Williams, Tom Staar and Leonardo Gonnelli.

‘At Night (The Anniversary Remixes)’ concludes an exhilarating series of releases, looking back at an impressive catalogue of influential releases and updating them for today's dancefloors.

Foremost international techno outlet Drumcode is delighted to announce the release of its next full-length album, ‘Satellite’, by enduring Italian techno talent Sam Paganini.

Though he has been active since the mid nineties, recent years have been hugely successful for Sam, with searing techno EPs coming on revered labels such as Riche Hawtin’s Plus8, Sven Vath’s Cocoon and of course, Adam Beyer’s Drumcode. In his time he has been responsible for underground hits like ‘Zoe’, ‘Polyester’ and ‘Fire In My Arms’, all of which demonstrate his dynamic understanding of sexy, dark and hypnotic techno grooves and at the same time have earned him plenty of great Beatport chart positions as well as respect from the best in the game.

Incredibly, ‘Satellite’ is Sam’s first full-length album. Informed by his DJ gigs at legendary places like Berghain in Berlin and Cielo in New York, the album starts with a dystopian bit of sonic scene setting, as if a space ship is charging up ready to take off.

From there it’s a case of getting straight down to business. ‘Another Chance’ is a spacey bit of cantering techno and ‘White’ is rooted in devastating kick drums and is riddled with serrated synth lines that build lots of great techno pressure. ‘Down’ is an undulating bit of funky techno complete with choice vocal flourishes and tracks like ‘Lotus’ are prime offerings from the deeper end of the scale.

No two tracks sound the same on Satellite: Sam is always teasing out a new bit of texture, nailing a slightly different vibe or exploring different amounts of light and dark throughout the course of this most excellent album. This is evidenced by diverse cuts like ‘Dusty’, ‘Toxic’ and ‘Rave’.

Despite ‘Satellite’ being Sam’s debut album, it showcases his seductive style in all its glory across 12 fantastic tracks that will leave you begging for more.

Ralphi Rosario is a pioneer of house music, kicking off an influential DJ career in Chicago when he was still in high school. He’s an artist who represents the ethos of Glitterbox Recordings, with decades of quality house music history woven into every beat. Also in line with the spirit of the label, ‘Wanna Give It Up’ is a classic track given some very tasteful modern updates, from Full Intention, Dr Packer and Jamie 3:26. Full Intention are first, employing their signature grooving bassline for a very bouncy little number. A suitably funked-up version from disco edits maestro Dr Packer is present and correct, alongside a ‘Disco Party Version’ from Chicagoan Jamie 3:26, amping the party up a further notch with some irresistible clinking percussion and a lazy-cool groove. Finally completing the package is the familiar ‘Légo’s Dub’ from the original release.

Our latest release on what Came First has been produced by Italy's newest export, Knowhat, who has delivered two original works blended with shades of uplifting house and tech house rhythms.

The original track 'Feel it' is a high-spirited, house-infused creation with soulful vocals and punchy drums, showcasing the artist's ability to shy away from the driving tech house sound he's usually known for.

'Make My Body Groove' is a sultry, alluring piece with infectious, groove-tinged percussion. Suitable to captivate any dancefloor worth its salt from the beginning to end.

Frankfurt based producer Basti Grub is also featured on the EP, re-working the title track. Having touched it down with a minimal techno bass-line, Grub has artfully kept the male vocal hook rolling throughout the mix.

undulating baselines form the basis of this melodic production before an unusual hook adds another dimension to the track. An oscillating filter peters in and out, adding a summery feel to this mesmerizing production, instantly taking the track up a notch to an almost spiritual rhythm.

'You Called' is a blend of dreamy synth work and tight drums. With a twist of
melancholia, it's on par for a set of a certain style - think outdoors, beneath the sunshine - with a slow-burning pace that still manages to captivate the listener from the get-go.

Guido's Schneider's remix of 'Wavetable' is also featured on the EP; a solid 90s influenced mix that's suitable to warm up a chilled out dancefloor. A more
upbeat take on Kyle's original mix, it's the perfect finish to a pulsating EP from the London based producer.
