Where does a person actually start to be themselves? For her third album, The Essence Of, Belia Winnewisser crawled into the rabbit hole in search of the origin of herself or of a certain kind of music. She found the origin of this, that, and then the origin of the origin, and then... No musical genre comes from nothing, no human being exists in isolation – these are the essences that the Zurich musician, after crawling out again into the clear light of day, was able to capture for herself. The Essence Of is a selfportrait that looks even further back into her own history than the previous releases. Memories of playful childhood days live on in moods and melodies drawn from the game Zelda. Impressions from movies and appreciations from life underpin the emotional layers of the seven (+1) tracks. Listening experiences across musical styles transport you to the UK of the early 90s or to quirky minimal floors 15 years later. And her most original musical experience is absolutely essential. Her voice breathes, floats, dabs and sings its way through the album and points deep inside. The Essence Of makes it clear: origins are not fixed places or points in time, but dynamic. The point at which something or someone begins shifts a little with every interpersonal encounter and every listen. The Essence Of is Belia Winnewisser's first album for the Cologne-based label SPA, on which she has already released the EP A Comet Blazing In the Empyrean (2020) and the track I Like Ferrofluid (2019 part of the compilation Safe Needing Attention).

Premiere: Belia Winnewisser - Gerudo Fortress (SPA014)

Young partygoers might know Man Power, AKA Geoff Kirkwood, as the earnest geezer going back-to-back with DJs like Ewan McVicar, Paul Woolford, La La and Skream—peak-time specialists with a fine line in boofy bangers and ravey techno. Kirkwood is also a dab hand at the kind of elliptical house and deep cut detours favored by '00s labels like DFA and Optimo.

In spite of a long track record as a producer and promoter, if you had to boil Kirkwood's work in recent years down to a single quality, it might be altruism. He hails from North Shields, a small town fringing the boundary of Newcastle in England's oft-neglected North East, and wears his heritage proudly. The Me Me Me label boss's involvement in a flurry of civic restoration, and no-filter paeans to the importance of working class involvement in culture, have become as central to his life as music-making itself. For an accomplished DJ who has played at nearly every good club you could name, that’s no small feat.

So which side of Man Power were we in for? The answer on RA.940 is: both. '60s free verse poetry, Zebra Katz, Gesaffelstein and John Carpenter in the opening stretch? Makes sense. Octave One punching through Rozalla? You got it. An extended Joe Claussell workout atop Radiohead's "Everything In Its Right Place"? Why not. In Kirkwood's hands, it all goes down as smooth as a pint of Newcastle Brown.

@gemayelsandra is a DJ and music producer from Kaunas, Lithuania. Her journey with music is long and various. She has experienced a lot of different music styles and specialties, but now her passion is to create music and to show people her taste of music. 

"Know your dimension" interview:
1.What can you tell us about this mix? Was it inspired by anything?
This mix is about my daydreams for a dance in a club with full of people dancing and enjoying their life. On these days it is impossible to achieve this, so I am trusting on my beloved music.

2.Are producing music? If yes, what is your latest release?
Yes, I am, but I haven't released my album yet. I am still working on it, and hope to share it within one month. This will be my first EP, hopefully it will succeed. I am very excited to share it with other musicians and other people, and I hope to create something more in the future with other artists.

3.Which track in the mix is your favourite right now?
My favourite track of this mix is Afrobot 'I' am Alive'

I really don't have specific artist which influates me, but i always like to take a look to my process in my music, and it motivates me to move further and be bigger, i see myself the only person which can push and motivate myself to do something.
