Member of the Musique de fête collective, label manager, DJ, Bab also shines in music production through his solo project. Focused on Maghreb music, he has already signed on labels such as Nowadays Records, Tigershushi, Crowdspacer, Macadam Mambo, Hard Fist or Afrobotic Musicology. 
A music based on melodic inspirations raï or chaâbi or/and ethnographic recordings, which coupled with synthesizers and drum machines offers a contemporary vision of this heritage. A patchwork oscillating between club music, hip hop, dub but which also consists of more experimental pieces eyeing around ambient and film music.

To accompany this project, he builds a cinematographic universe through clips illustrating his compositions. With his videos, he exercises the same approach as in his music by mixing different analog recording media (8mm, film photos) with digital visual effects.

DJ STEEF / COPYSHOP / TROUBLEMAKERS

Fred Berthet est ce mystérieux français connu sous le nom de DJ STEEF qui a produit ces dernières années des morceaux house downtempo slow & funky. 

Basé à Marseille, ce producteur discret mais pas timide a bâti sa route sur de nombreux projets différents depuis le début des années 90 où tout a commencé.

Fred Berthet a d'abord travaillé avec Biomix (organisateur du Festival « Territoires Electroniques », plus tard connu sous le nom de « Seconde Nature »).

Après avoir composé des singles avec Antoine Boullé sous le pseudonyme de Venus Attack Project (sur le label US Guidance), il a créé le groupe Troublemakers avec son ami Lionel Corsini & Arnaud Taillefert. 

Après un premier LP très apprécié ("Doubts & Convictions" sur Guidance rec) et bien accueilli dans le monde entier, Concecration arrive sur le deuxième EP,  Blue Note ("Express Way") et en 2003 il met en pause ce projet qui lui est cher...

Il s'est ensuite concentré sur le projet Copyshop, influencé par les années 80 (Gomma, Toy Tonics, La Dame Noir, Numoment...). 
Produire maintenant sous la direction de DJ Steef, c'était l'occasion de synthétiser ses racines musicales telles que l'électro pop des années 80, la disco vénéneuse, les influences françaises classieuses, le downtempo insistant et la house ascendante. 

Fred a trouvé dans son alter ego DJ Steef la combinaison parfaite de morceaux house downtempo incroyablement gras, lents et funky dont tout le monde raffole. Comme le dit le patron du label Gomma, ce n'est pas une question de mode mais clairement une question de style et c'est pour cela qu'on aime tous sa production estampillée BIOMIX, dans l'ombre, sous couvert et tout simplement exceptionnelle.
