Premiere: Simple Symmetry - Che Che (Odopt X** B**** Remix) - Calypso Records

Peaces is Rizki Soerja Djanegara, a new Indie Dance/Dark Disco project coming all the way from Jakarta, Indonesia. With an interesting blend of references from New Wave, Disco, Rock, and Postpunk, Rizki has spot-on appearances on important labels of the scene such as Rotten City Files, Boite Music, Oberwave, and Quixotical. The young and skilled producer lands now on the solid Berlin-based imprint ODD Pleasures with his “Hour Strike” EP, a darkness-meets-groove feast featuring two noteworthy originals and their respective remixes made with love by his fellow countryman Arvin Fajar and Spanish virtuoso JGR.

The mastermind behind the parcel we handpicked to review/premiere is a producer, DJ, and engineer also hailing from Jakarta. Arvin has well-received cuts published on Double Deer, Ombra International, and Play Pal Music, and now debuts on ODD with an exquisite interpretation of “Poised Ranger”. 

Kicking up a notch of the release even more, Arvin manages to deliver a more intricate vision of the theme by adding a kind of naughty gait to it. Excitement and feverishness seize the stage and result in a powerful and spirited take ready to trigger brand-new dance floor memories.

Kalexis & Paulor return to Riotvan one year after their initial appearance with their „In Between EP' inviting a fresh spectrum of global talent to reimagine their cosmic soundscapes. Going Through The Void (Skelesys Remix) The EP's atmospheric opener with only bass guitar driving its rhythm, receives a darker, pulsating treatment from Skelesys. Introducing a kick, electric guitar, and sharper snare, Skelesys amplifies the track's heartbeat, weaving in Berlin's raw edge with South American intensity. At 105 BPM, this version brings a steady structure while remaining faithful to the mystique of the original. Lashes (Peter Invasion & Gregor Habicht Remix) Peter Invasion and Gregor Habicht take the hypnotic, distortion-heavy 'Lashes' to chaotic new heights. Layered with arpeggiated sounds their remix adds a structured dynamism that contrasts yet complements the track's underlying turbulence. We’re happy to cordially invite you to the Regression Session, hosted by eternal Philadelphia scene flag bearers @zillasonacid ! And if you think this sounds awfully lot like a scam, you’re probably right: „Regression Session“ is just a front of their illegal black market operation, trading raw uncut gems on a large scale. Just listen to the opener and title track and you won’t exactly have a strong case for the Zillas selling out, but rough as it is, this thing is capable of destroying any dancefloor it touches. Looking at their recent releases it’s fair to say the Z’s are on quite a run, putting out music on labels like Permanent Vacation, Throne Of Blood, Multi Culti or Ivan Smagghe’s Disques de la Mort. Tunes like the sneaky rough slow burners „Underling“ or „Start Digging“ sound like they could be lifted from the latter’s infamous DJ sets, while the deceptively titled „Cha Cha Cha“ or closer „Casual Observer“ justify the „Acid“ in the artist name. „Shining Snakes Across The Lake“ is what some years might have been called a mid-tempo house roller and probably counts as downtempo these days. Speaking of tempos, the penultimate „Sweet Days Of Discipline“ starts of masquerading as reaaally downtempo, but ends up throwing 155bpm kick drums at you, so better watch out, all you k-hole ravers! Let’s not forget to talk about „bquiet“, which is what you’d call mid-tempo house these days (125bpm) and uses the eternally banging combination of a jacking beat, a polyrhythmic bass line, some lead-synth stabs and talking vocal slices. You can practically smell the sweat. So what’s left to say? What you see is what you get: They are Zillas, and they are on Acid. And they provide a collection of eight tunes that probably each don’t necessarily have a double-digit amount of tracks in their DAW projects, and that’s exactly what makes them so forceful. Ackerman's debut EP on Play Pal opens with the high-octane title track, "More & Faster" a dynamic mix of mid-paced percussion, syncopated arpeggios, robotic vocals, and sharp snares.

Next up is "Time Machine," a moody, synth-driven track that offers psychedelic dark grooves, punctuated by stuttering vocals and 303s. Meanwhile, "Can We Rewind Time" stomps forward with a heavy bassline and pulsating sound waves, building to a fiery climax.

Adding depth to the release are label friends and frequent Play Pal contributors Mufti, Leonor and TYU, each bringing their unique stamps to the originals.

Mufti’s rework of "More & Faster" strips back the original, retaining the hypnotic mantra, while adding new layered synth lines that heighten the tension throughout the track. Leonor’s darker take on "Time Machine" introduces a menacing funk, complete with a tempo-slowing breakdown before the latin vocal (a personal addition of his), kicks back in with force.

TYU rounds off Ackerman's kinetic collection with his signature blend of percussive acid bubbling, congas, and 303s, delivering an electrifying finish to the EP.

Jason Peters, the visionary behind Roam Recordings, returns with his latest EP, 'It's Ok to Be Sad.' This release is a dynamic journey through emotional soundscapes, blending high-energy beats with introspective undertones.

Opening the EP, 'Satellites' is an homage to Jason's formative years in the underground rave scene of the 90s. The track captures the raw, pulsating energy of warehouse parties with its heavy hitting drums underpinning wild electronic noises.

Brazilian producer Niev debuts on Mexican imprint Duro Label with a three-track EP exploring the depths of acid house.

Duro Label proudly announces the release of "Mariokarlos EP," the latest production from Brazilian artist Niev, an emerging force in the electronic scene from Ribeirão Preto who has been making waves in experimental music since 2020.

The EP, consisting of three original tracks, represents a deep dive into acid house territory while maintaining Niev's characteristic essence of blending electronic elements with Brazilian influences. The EP includes the title track "Mariokarlos," followed by "Ciao (Stripped Mix)" and "Wannabe," each exploring different nuances within the genre.

Niev, known for his work with Radio Vitrine and The Last Baba Disco Studios, brings to this release his distinctive musical perspective, shaped between 80's nostalgia and contemporary influences from Russian and Middle Eastern music. His ability to weave traditional and cutting-edge elements is reflected in each of the EP's cuts.

"Mariokarlos EP" marks Niev's debut on Duro Label, solidifying the Mexican imprint's presence in the international house music scene and reinforcing its commitment to innovative sounds and bold proposals.

The EP will be available across all digital platforms from March 7th, 2025.
