Schrödinger’s Box found a true audio delinquent when they discovered Rapha. Resident at Alphabet Club in Tel Aviv, this is a musician who creates tracks with a punk attitude and a painted acid smile. The co-founder of Chateau Royal arrives with four blistering numbers for our box. After the pounding percussion and 303 smears of “Ivanka”, this sidewinder synthesist unfurls the brooding darkness that is “Transform.” Lighter tones pierce the gloom in the carefully crafted “Visionia” before The Exaltics lands for some deep and dreamy electro with an incredible remake of “Voyager101.” Rapha’s original of “Voyager101” closes the 12”. Rasping rhythm patterns cut a path for rich dauby analogue bars in this stripped-back, late-night close.

Cormac’s new Polari label (@polarirecords) strides into a new year with the brazen energy and positivity we need right now.  Following delicious discs from Kiwi and Zillas On Acid comes another delectable collection from Brazilian-in-Berlin ROTCIV (@rotciv).

A name synonymous with house, electronic disco, electro and Italo fusion for well over 10 years with his label Mister Mistery and releases on the likes of Full Pupp, Freeride Millenium, Luv Shack Records and Massimiliano Pagliara’s Funnovejere (to name a few), ROTCIV makes his debut on Polari with four more stunning cuts.

The beautifully chaotic title track, ‘PUR NRG’, is a sleazy, bass guitar thumping slab of dark cosmic matter. ‘Fear’ ripples and glistens with the tension its name suggests, a layered beast built up around sinewy acid lines and a voluminous slug of a bassline.  ‘Slipping’, the most euphoric moment in the selection, is a lavish rhythm laced with all kinds of twinkling rave echoes and sudden synth rushes.  Finally we reach ‘XTSY’, which switches up the beats for full Italo subversion, and the perfect happy ending.

Life had become nomadic; they travelled from place to place, finding shelter for a day or two before moving on to new climes. It wasn't the life they'd chosen for themselves, but they had no choice in the matter. This existence had been forced upon them by powers far much greater than their own; now their only mission was finding a safe space to inhabit.

Milanese label Nothing Is Real took a brief interlude from showcasing what Italy's fertile music scene has to offer with their 'Made In Mexico' compilation earlier this year, and now they return their attention to their stomping ground through the sounds of Gabriele Lori, aka Astroloop. Marking his debut solo outing, following collaborations on Freerange Records, the three original tracks touch on several sonic influences—from hypnotic house to mid-tempo grooves and driving synthwave—and are bolstered by a remix from Mexican producers Theus Mago and Moisees.

All proceeds from the VA will be split equally between the Russian human rights organizations: Mediazona (an independent media platform focused on the judiciary, law enforcement and penal system in Russia founded by Pussy Riot members Maria Alyokhina and Nadezhda Tolokonnikova) and OVD-Info (an independent human rights media project aimed at combating political persecution)".

New Swiss label Rababoo is proud to present his first release: Marcel de Sie! Oscillating between melodic industrial and shaky psychedelic music, Mr. de Sie overcomes his first 3 tracks with a static approach of electronic low drifts – in that sense, we decided to call it a soundtrack “to schuss'', in dedication to all our ski friends from here and there. The first 2 tracks, “Filter Seq'' and “Mezzo FM'' pitch the tone of the EP and are built as explorations of dance floor narratives, with the purpose to generate a wave state of mind through a real sound experience. While the first track is a relentless technoïd filter-driven smasher which immediately bleeps your mind and floods it with sound, the second track unleashes a cascade of sounds that brings any lost hiker back on track and drives him into a shamanic waltz in the mountains. 

The title track “Poetic Frame” is a direct response to these soundscapes, where howling, disturbing synths are at times chimera that fractures the pattern and calls you back to reality.

For his 1st release, Marcel de Sie is joined by Greek producer Anatolian Weapons (Dark Entries) and Belgian’s Victor de Roo (Stroom) for the remixes. Each one delivers a proper interpretation of the 3rd track of the EP “Poetic Frame”. While Anatolian Weapons explores a tribal trance sonic journey that can drive a Dervish dancer crazy, De Roo makes use of his distinguished style and creates the most abstracted version of this track. Not scared to apply kind of a trap snare ratcheting, he brings us to a space urban take.
