French artist Justine Forever joins the Human Endeavour family for the sixth release on the Ransom Note Records’ sub-label. 

Having made appearances on imprints like Ombra Internatonal, Lumière Noire, Her Majesty’s Ship and her own newly minted Club Forever label, this fresh body of work, ‘Out Of The Blue’, continues her pursuit to connect the dots between cold wave, punk and the uninhibited abandonment of dark, sweaty dance floors. 

The Rome-based producer - real name Justine Neulat - ushers us into the shadows with three propulsive, tripped-out cuts, each one more intoxicating than the last.

‘Klaus’ kicks things off, bringing an air of mystery from the get-go. Metallic synths, courtesy of Justine’s trusty MS20, glide over a ghostly ambience, which soon gives way to a crawling bass line and mystifying vocals.

‘My Blood’ follows and is just as hypnotic as its predecessor. The motorik beat is accented by resonant thuds of bass, snappy percussion and a woozy synth line that puts us all under Justine’s sonic spell.

‘Out Of The Blue’ is the most club-ready of the package. Driven by a deep, rumbling bass, the track is a masterclass in musical restraint; its stripped-back structure made all the more powerful by Justine’s skilled use of atmosphere and sound FX. 

For the first time since the label’s inception last summer, Human Endeavour bring on board two remixers to round off the release, both of whom are fellow explorers of the dark, psychedelic realms of the electronic universe. 

Hand picked by Justine herself, French producer Cate Hortl and Mexican artist Undefined Pattern reinterpret ‘My Blood’ and ‘Out Of The Blue’ respectively. The former ups the tempo placing her signature cocktail of dark pop and coldwave-tinged synths centre-stage, while the latter subtly retouches the titular track, shaping it into a pounding techno stomper that’s primed for the dance.

As soon as we realized just how serious the COVID19 situation was, all of us here at AEON Towers felt strongly that we must try to do something to help.

The virus had put an end to all live events so putting on an AEON party for charity wasn’t an option. With that in mind we felt we should do something around the label. It was also important to us to involve our AEON family too which is why the obvious answer was to open up some of our catalogue by way of a remix competition, with the winning remixes being released and all the profit being donated to the WHO COVID19 Response Fund.

We were mind blown and humbled by, not only the number of remixes that were submitted, but also the high quality of the music. It made choosing the best ones a very difficult task. We think we chose the best ones though, and we will release the results on July 3rd via Bandcamp only.
To those of you who can afford it, please dig deep and help us raise some money for a very good cause!

Cosmic Friday (Past Futura Remix) - Speaking Minds & Amarcord

Bernardo Barrera, one half of Los Fugazzi, but best known as Mufti, delivers two tracks full to the brim with guitar licks, analogue squelches, dark corners, creative juice and a generous dose of serotonin. The title track, 'Mess My Mind' is a dark foray into sound with a frankly unhinged vocal, which evokes sleaze, sex, narcosis and madness, while 'Rutina', although keeping the pace, uses overdriven distorted guitars and sinister synth sounds to create a mood all of its own. Propping up the originals with their own unique takes are Niv Ast and Middle Sky Boom, who will be joining the label for the first time. 
Niv Ast ramps up the kick drum and brings out the animal noises for 'Rutina' in a hypnotic reworking, while taking a vocal snippet from the original and turning it into a chant, giving the mix a slightly heavier punch to the brooding original mix.
