Belgian iconic label https://soundcloud.com/usaimportmusic gets relaunch. First release: REISSUE by HARDCORE producer Liza N’ Eliaz.

Nicknamed “The Queen of Terror”, Liza N’ Eliaz was a well respected DJ, producer and label owner born in Ostend in 1958 and sadly passed away in Antwerp in 2001.

Growing up in a family of musicians, she studied classical music and learned to play the piano four hands with her grandfather, a conductor at the local municipal orchestra. Later she discovered the synthesizer and cassette recorder and joined new wave and industrial bands in the recording studio and on tour. During a concert in France in 1985 she met Yvette Neliaz, who became her companion, muse and partner and whose surname inspired her pseudonym. Liza was added as a reference to the byname given to transsexuals in Flanders.

In Amsterdam the couple became enthralled with the burgeoning acid house, new beat and techno scene centered around the club Roxy. Soon Liza N’ Eliaz started to make a name for herself, among others in the Parisian underground scene and as a regular guest at French Radio FG. As a DJ she mastered an incredible technique simultaneously mixing on three or four turntables. As a music producer she had an impeccable ear for sound, pushing up the pace to staggering heights and as a result taking part in changing the rules of electronic dance music in a new and booming global scene in the mid nineties: hardcore and speedcore.

Liza N’ Eliaz was a prolific producer working solo and with artists such as DJ Dano, Laurent Hô and The Prophet, releasing on labels such as Atom, Mokum and Bonzai. In 1997 she founded her own label in collaboration with USA Import Records dubbed Provision Records.

USA Import Records is proud to present the reissue of Initial Gain, the EP previously released on its sublabel Atom Records in 1992, the second in the Molecules of Music series. Adding two new interpretations by Toulouse Low Trax to three original tracks, a nothing else but logical connection is set between Liza N’ Eliaz’ early work and today’s genre bending electronic music scene.

For the record: Liza N’ Eliaz didn’t like her nickname “the queen of terror”. She didn’t intend on terrorizing anyone, commented Yvette Neliaz after her unfortunate passing away.

Spring 2023 saw the release of Tyrants; A rich and accomplished long-player from Raz Ohara via Denature Records that spans distorted synth-peaks, cinematic soundscapes, all the way to avant-garde contemporary classical, and jazz music.

Succeeding the LP is a collection of weird and wonderful revisions courtesy of Cummi Flu, Die Wilde Jagd, Temple Haze and Phillip Thimm who all work to twist and pull the originals into beautifully intricate shapes that are in equal parts kinetic, psychedelic and healing.

Cummi Flu's take is a loose, expressive tale that trickles like a brook; a gentle braid of melodies that subtly form a directional flow.

Die Wilde Jagd follows up with a spectral take on 'Instant Mastery' that has frazzled drums gently pattering atop murky plumes. Motion is generated steadily as spring-reverb guitar tones and sparse vocals punctuate a heady journey.

Temple Haze follows up with an allaying take on Tyrants. Progress patiently stretches out like a morning salute as Raz's vocals are granted space to occupy the foreground and ferry the listener forward.

Philipp Thimm finishes up with a deep, textural take on Pretty Bird. Chalky drums follow syncopated steps as they scatter over a dense, foggy bed adding a more rhythmic, fast-paced shade to the remix package.

Berlin artist Katiusha kicks off her new label GRACE with ‘The Sellout’.

Over two tracks, the EP imagines sultry, meandering spaces for dancers to disappear in.

9-minute opener ‘The Sellout’ laces distorted bass pressure with slithering textures, vocals and shadowy synths. On the flip, ‘A Shark Called Nancy’ shakes up the oceanic depths with a more steamy groove and fidgety breaks.

GRACE is built for those moments where dancefloors melt into hazier spaces. After this first release, the label will pass the mic to other producers who wanna take you there!

Ware's Sable Bay was one of our faves from their debut album 'Star Catalogue', so we thought it only right to serve it up with the remix treatment from a few of our nearest and dearest.
First up we have 'Bryan Hillebrandt', an Oakland multi-instrumentalist and serial collaborator (Oakland Afternoon Ensemble, Askr, Galvagna / Hillebrandt). Bryan's take is a true textural journey and masterclass in how ambient music should flow, hints of Eno, flecks of Glass, and a smattering of Twin's more introspective work.
Next up is Absent Music's very own 'Antikue', who obliges with a more upbeat and glitched out affair, swirly beats, detuned pianos, and a build-up that would give the '45 minute waiting room crew' a real euphoric splash as it hits.
Last up on remix duties is 'New King', who worked with the band to craft his new age, afterparty in the woods, acoustic guitar rendition, adding a whole new dimension to this beautiful EP.
To round things out, we have an exclusive instrumental of the original track.

Black Merlin - Sub Conscious

FM label reconnects genres and builds new bridges between music, fashion and design. Established in 2019 by Milan Fatrla, label joins the flourishing scene of Prague with a vision of a music, in which the new revisits the old. A vision where strongly-rooted love for hip-hop merges with passion for everything electronic and danceable, to offer records where these two genres meet and reconnect. Every release offers a set of tracks which provide options for the DJ: dance floor slammers, broken synthesis and acapellas DJ tools.
With its modular attitude, FM label plays with norms of record sleeve design and fashion. In its first phase the label will put out three trilogies, each trilogy in a different package developed with local designers and artists.
First release by Credit 00, including a remix and an acapella from the mighty Egyptian Lover, is held in a cardboard sleeve which can be reshaped into a vinyl display holder.
