There’s a great sense for taming nostalgia in Lithuanian-born Klimas’ work. Based in Kaunas, real name Rokas Klimas works on setting his signature sound with a great passion for the genres of the past that flourished at the end of the previous century. The production is obviously dipped in Italo,  New Wave, and New Beat more than anything else but also showcases a huge amount of interest for the dancer of modern times through investigations of minimal techno, electro, d’n’b, and dubstep. His allies for getting the more convincing sounds are machines from the USSR era, vintage synthesizers, and other gadgets in the studio. Klimas’ background also includes some action with the Rebel Army group that got its big sound system-ready EP released on Mixmag and VNTGRD labels. 

With his long-term collaborator Tautvydas, Klimas started a label-slash-music-sharing-space in Kaunas called Lempa. As a producer, he promises a lot of stories from the past in the future.

Ulla Records is back with another VA : « Shifted Frequencies ». For our two years anniversary we wanted to treat you with something special, our first physical release, on vinyl !

Now you know our mojo : to explore that 80s inspired, wonky disco sound, in all its shapes and forms ! From Italo to acid, EBM or New Wave, we wanted to showcase some of the multiple facets of the label, our interpretation of these « Shifted Frequencies ». An EP of limbo-inducing squelch courtesy of our good friends Latrec aka Andy Bainbridge and Serious Hots, ft. techno flavoured remixes from Bristolian pal Remotif & our very own Matt Cowell & Johnny Aux as The W.C. Enjoy.

In the furthest reaches of the cosmos, the intergalactic community gathers for the annual Kutika Limbo finals. Reigning champion Latrec draws the first straw and the percussion rolls excitedly as he steps up to the pole.

Kutika glides lithely under the bar, tentacles wobbling to the acid rhythm. He celebrates his victory as the crowd chants in a glitchy alien dialect. “Kutika-tika-tika-tika!”

Second in line, Latrec’s younger brother Dub Mix steps up for his first limbo. Shorter and stockier than his brother, we don’t know what to expect from this one. Once again the percussion rolls, the crowd gasps as his squidgy exoskeleton melts before their eyes, reforming on the other side of the bar - ‘blooooop’. The crowd goes wild “Kut-Kut!”

Next up is The W.C. Events take a strange turn as they forgo the competition, instead they walk to the stage to sweep the band aside, hijacking control of the instruments. Heavy percussive hits twist spacetime with material melting bass throbs. The crowd goes wild as the fabric of reality collapses around them.

Last but by no means least is Remotif, a techno unit resembling a giant cluster of biceps stands staring at the limbo pole, chaos erupting around him. The tempo of the percussion rises in anticipation and acid thunder roars in the background. Remotif picks up the bar, blinks, and hurls it off into the furthest reaches of the galaxy never to be seen again.

Godot Lab. Records presents its brand new project: SOURD. 
After the massive success of its previous releases (at least 3 copies of each reference sold Worldwide), Godot’ aimed to move to unexpected fields and got deeper into alternative caves. Cutting off happy samples and peaceful grooves, the decision was made to let machines speak by themselves.

This is the 3rd single taken from the upcoming Headman album. Vocals are by Mexican DJ and producer Vongold. The single features a remix by New Hook and an extra song called Live120.

Sometimes is inspired by the 90s, as Headman recalls them. A mix of Indie and dance electronica.
Vongold having already released on Relish, a collaboration with fellow Mexican artist Mufti, added Vocals to the track.

Remix duties are by Leipzig’s New Hook. A female power-force DJ and producer duo that recently released the track Manipulation. They gave the original track an even more 90s dance spin.

The last track on the single is called Live120, also taken from the upcoming album. It could be described as a classic Headman track. Live Bass, a forward thumping beat and some electronic overtones.

Bristol finest Chez de Milo delivered a trippy, bass driven, soundtrack-like breakbeat version of “Walking Down The Streets” featuring Aquarius Heaven. The original I’m Wild, Oh I See was part of REPVII released in 2017. Remixed by Id!r and Theus Mago. They gave the track a more dancefloor orientated feel. The two Remixers met and became friends back in 2014 in Paris. This is a swift and thunderous collaboration between the two, made in Theus studio in Mexico City. Theus Mago is the alter ego of Mexican producer Mateo González.

Andrea Lacoste es una de esas artistas que pese a su juventud, ha sabido captar y proyectar lo mejor del sonido de los 80. La oscuridad y el pop de esa década, y el rock de las 90 son las principales influencias de esta cantante y productora venezolona. Actualmente afincada en Mexico DF, es desde allí desde donde dirige actualmente su carrera discográfica con varios lanzamientos ensu haber. Su más reciente trabajo, el álbum "En la Boca Del", es un artefacto sonoro lleno de eclecticismo, con guiños al pop industrial y al rock electrónico, entrelazando atmósferas electrónicas y riffs de guitarra. 
Al citado LP le sucederá un EP de remixes de uno de sus mejores temas, "Hass", una pieza cantada por la propia Andrea en alemán, y con esa impronta retro-sintética que la productura impregna a sus composiciones. El trabajo sale a la calle el 1 de noviembre con Roam Recordings. 
Lo que nos toca en Como Las Grecas es estrenar una de las remezclas, concretamente la de Pardon Moi, en la que el dúo intenta y consigue sacar chispas a la vena más bailable del original, acentuando aún más si cabe su su esencia ochentera.

PREMIERE: Andrea Lacoste - Hass (Pardon Moi Remix) [Roam Recordings] (2019)

Italian rising star Amarcord (SXDNS109) makes his debut on California-based ROAM with an Indie-Disco-Rock-infused EP, whose title – “A New Day Is Coming” – seems to state an optimistic forecast of our near future. After releasing on vital labels such as Correspondant, Ombra International, Watergate, Emerald & Doreen and Aeon, Amarcord brings three new originals including a collaboration featuring ROAM alumnus Mufti on the vocals of “The Time Is Running”. The EP also comes with a remix from label boss Jason Peters of the title track. 

The tune we chose to premiere, “Discoteca Nella Nebbia”, despite its relatively slow downtempo (110 BPM), is so energetic that your body will feel the urge to speed up the dance moves to catch on the intensity of the track. Powerful guitar riffs, upbeat drum fills and vibrant synth layers were creatively and seamlessly brought together by Amarcord in order to give birth to a unique and essential piece.

PREMIERE #1072 | Jac The Disco - Goddess [Spin On This] 2020

Phil Peskett and Jamie Tolley aka Blavatsky & Tolley are about to release their first track on their record label – the track is River Inside, the label is Evil Plans records. The release date is 9 October, presale on 18 September 2020. 

This is not an ordinary artist collaboration, these guys have history – as close as brothers.

Jamie was first introduced to Phil in the early 90s, at the time Jamie held a residency at Club UK and Phil was firmly placed on the band circuit, but it was electronic music that brought them together. Via a group of mutual friends, Jamie first encountered Phil in a South East London loft studio, this was Phil’s loft and the start of a beautiful friendship. According to Jamie, Phil was a ‘larger than life’ character and the pair instantly bonded. Hanging out and enjoying music together became a regular pastime. Jamie loved Phil’s style, but at the time they were experimenting with sound and did not even think to release anything.

Fast forward three decades, and Blavatsky & Tolley are on it. Phil’s blues/rock band have separated, Jamie’s weekly electronic music radio show is established with a regular following and the time is right – everything happens for a reason. Phil got back the taste for electronic music, he always loved what Jamie played on the show and became inspired to collaborate and create with him. Over the New Year from 2019/2020 the guys spent nearly three days straight in the studio, the music flowed and River Inside was born. 

In terms of what the tracks means to him, in Jamie’s own words – ‘River Inside, it’s a journey … a twister of a tune. I’m a river inside, that’s how you feel when you’re on the dancefloor where nothing else matters as the music runs through you. It’s a great feeling and that is a river inside you.’ 

Phil’s musical background as a vocalist and harmonicist combined with Jamie’s nous for electronic music and exposure to constantly new material from showcasing international artists on a weekly basis makes for creative brilliance – Blavatsky & Tolley.

The initial plan for the label Evil Plans records was to debut and release Blavatsky & Tolley’s music, but knowing these guys this is just the beginning of something truly mind-blowing, and much bigger than that. River Inside comes with two fantastic remixes by Al Mackenzie’s Retroforward and BTCOP, two completely different takes and equally as breath-taking as the original. Rich Lane from Cotton Bud did a superb job on the mastering of all three – a great collaborative effort on this super EP. This has been a long time coming, watch this space …
