Unanswered emails piled up, unread messages clogged his inbox - he had no desire to answer their pleas or succumb to the days worth of grovelling. There was little that could be said to change the way he felt, no amount of words or showering of gifts would change things, this time he couldn't forgive and forget - even if he wanted to. Grudges had never been his thing, it was generally more effort than it was worth, but on this occasion the situation was unforgivable... 

20/20 Vision's Exit Planet Earth series began life back in 2020, just as the pandemic was beginning and lockdown was around the corner. Originally intended to provide a snapshot of how artists were feeling at this time through captivating, original music, the series soon took on a life of its own and is now reaching the ripe old age of 10. Each release features music from stalwarts and emerging names, and on this occasion involves over 25 artists from across the world. Largely concerning itself with music close to the label's heart - namely electro and techno - this 10th volume includes music from Egyptian Lover & Soul Clap, Kosh, Annie Hall, London Modular Alliance, Mr Ho and Xiaolin, among many others.

Mysticisms continues its global journey with an EP of previously unreleased ethereal House meets IDM by Romania’s HAN aka Dan Handrabur, taken from his early studio recordings, 1991-95.
Born in Bucharest, Handrabur’s music talents began with violin and classical training, leading to a scholarship at the Conservatoire de Geneve at just 16. An even earlier fascination with tapes machines and manipulation, furthered from listening to Radio Free Europe, led to seeking more experimental and contemporary sounds, obtaining a Korg Polisix, Roland TR606 Beat Box and TEAC deck while still in his teens.
Soon hanging around record stores, meeting DJs and securing a residency at Geneva’s landmark, Club 58, he dropped out of studies to pursue the dream of producing. After links were made and a relocation to Vancouver, Canada, his first release – as ‘X Drone’ with Adham Shaikh – in ‘93, led Handrabur to become an integral part of the City’s electronic scene, with dozens of collaborations and releases across a myriad of respected labels, from Harthouse, Exist Dance, Eye Q Records and many more, plus a notably, close relationship with the legendary Phil Western.
The sole HAN release appeared on Interchill Records in ‘98, going on to be a collector’s item that saw a recent, timely repress. The music on “Reflections” comes from the similar space, a timeframe that combines a mastery of Ambient and House textures.
Opening with Floating, featuring the vocals of partner Cristina, captures the essence perfectly. Ethereal and uplifting, with the well placed optimism of the period as this new music movement was mutating. Echoes of the UK post-rave sound is evident, a pulsing 303 and piano counter, a gentle melodic adventure over tight breakbeats.
The title track is a deeper, darker affair, closer to Handrabur and Western’s seminal ’93 ‘Frequencies From The Edge Of The Tektonic Plate’ album, as well a nod to The Drum Club and the post-British Prog House sound.
The B side takes on the “Ambient House” lost genre with the swirling oscillations and beats of Phantasme, a companion to fellow travelers, Pilgirms Of The Mind’s “Subtropique”, before Give In And Resist channels floating arpeggios and vocal samples, a la Irresistible Force,’s “Rising High”; closing another chapter of Handrabur’s archival releases that continue to captivate DJs and collectors ears in equal abandon.

UNOS, a Belgian artist with roots in the Philippines, has long been a part of the Darker Than Wax family, repping the label in Europe and beyond for a number of years through her parties and DJ sets. As she begins to put her unique productions out into the world, we are pleased to give her first release a home on the label.

Borrowing its title from the exuberant Filipino dining tradition - a communal, bare-handed feast among friends and families - UNOS' debut EP Boodle Fight highlights her sincere love for communities forged through club culture. The release was conceptualised during her first Asia tour through Singapore, Bangkok, and Manila in 2019, where the artist became acutely aware of the crucial role that community plays in sustaining a culture. Shortly after these foundational travels, the pandemic threatened the lifeblood of this culture, prompting her to draw on her feelings from the tour to maintain hope. With the release of the EP, UNOS revels in the return of togetherness to club culture after the pandemic - just like a musical boodle fight.

Boodle Fight ties together this celebration of community with a number of other influences and experiences in the artist’s life. First single ‘Angermanagement’ is a ballroom-inspired roller, focusing on contemporary voguing culture’s ability to translate anger into queer empowerment. ‘Powerslide’ is a piano-driven house cut that attempts to capture the energy of a legendary Darker Than Wax block party in Singapore in 2019, while the frenetic pace of ‘Headlock’ evokes imagery of a crowded club scene that the artist sorely missed in 2020. True to the spirit of a Boodle Fight, the bright chords and bouncy rhythms on ‘Flavourtown’ imagine the best aspects of an inclusive space where diversity is celebrated like a buffet. Closing out the record, ‘Loveletter to Summer’ reflects on the tropical warmth of her roots in the Philippines. Boodle Fight manages to pack in quite a few themes and inspirations, while still maintaining a polished consistency from front to back, and announces UNOS as a producer to watch.

"Le Disque De l'Art Gué" highlights in a 10-track compilation the avant-garde and dreamlike work of Fizzè, in between medieval ballad, acoustic industrial and psychedelic world music. “Superbrains'' is a showcase for the Berlin-based, inclusive music project Ick Mach Welle, an initiative which has been bringing together musicians, with and without visible disabilities, for the last 5 years. Featuring solo artists and musical collaborations with very different approaches to creating music, this compilation highlights the results of the workshops and mentoring programs provided by Ick Mach Welle throughout these years. The tracks featured on this release range across the musical spectrum from the wildly experimental, to dub and electronica, to driving techno and rave, reflecting the diversity of the participants and the inclusivity of the Ick Mach Welle project. The emotions revealed through the music contained herein provide the listener with an insight into the lives of the people who created them, people whose voices far too often go unheard. The artwork comes from Brussels artist Elzo Durt, who has provided Killekill with his psychedelic collages several times in recent years.
