PREMIERE: Zillas On Acid - Bruce Is Loose [Lagasta]

If Guatemala is on the map of the Dark Disco/Indie Dance scene, it is because of the global recognition Fabio Me Llaman Solteiro (SXDNS187) has achieved as a DJ and producer. Now, in order to consolidate even more the importance of the Caribbean country to the high-quality underground music world, Fabio established the project Sonido Moderna, a micro-label and music collective devoted to showcasing the interesting Central American sonority through the release of original pieces and collaborations with international artists.

After the acclaimed debut album, a compilation featuring local heroes Alan Es, Mike Rowave, Mverto Futura, and Fabio himself, plus Martian Superstars Hanzo & Yaman (SXDNS065), ID_UA (SXDNS229), MIJO, Max Jones (SXDNS234), among others, the second episode – “Gentel Decay” EP – brings together Israeli producer Mishell (SXDNS228) and a Latino Dream Team: ALF CHAMPION, Balam (SXDNS048), and Mike Rowave, who provided savoury remixes.

The track we chose to review/premiere brings ALF CHAMPION, an experimental producer, DJ, and visual artist from Guadalajara, Mexico, remodelling and overhauling the already intricate “Lost My Bongo's”. The Shamanic aura of the original is still present in ALF’s version but is now not so evident. The Mexican virtuoso took Mishell’s theme to a more breakbeat and old school rave-ish road whose outcome is a track more embodied and dirtier, ready to wreak havoc on the dance floor. Hats off, lad!

Hace algún tiempo hicimos una convocatoria abierta para participar de un nuevo compilado de REVOLTE, nos sorprendió la cantidad y variedad de material que nos llegó, fue tanto que tuvimos que hacer dos volúmenes los cuales llamamos ‘‘Variaciones Marginales vol. 2 y 3’’, en donde continuamos con el compilado que dio origen al sello. en el vol.2 podrán encontrar sonidos que van desde el post punk, synthwave, breakbeat, pop y experimental, y en el vol. 3 tenemos un repertorio de música de club y algunas cosas experimentales que van desde el techno, acid, industrial y deep. Gracias a todxs lxs artistas emergentes y algunxs con trayectoria, que participaron de esta convocatoria, esta es solo la primera de muchas que haremos!

„Oseary Drakoulias“ was written in early 2021, when Konstantyn Isaev
aka Rambal Cochet was living in Saint Petersburg. The track flow is inspired by the sci-fi movies of the late 70s/early 80s and “The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou” by Wes Andersen. The track merges classic progressive trance of the 90s and sci-fi soundtrack with nasty oldskool electro touch.

Rambal Cochet is a newborn alias of Krasnodar-based Konstantyn Isaev aka Volta Cab with releases on Aspecto Humano, Soil, Dark Leader, Les Yeux Orange and the future releases on Wrong Era, Space Lab, People And Places, Erbium and Snippets Music. As Rambal Cochet Konstantyn prefers a strange hypnotic soundings in his own productions with a taste of oldskool goa, early 90s trance, new age electronics and new wave of forward thinking music.

Acid Washed is a collective process primarily, deteriorating sounds amongst souvenirs, friends, home studios and analogue equipment. It follows the blueprint devised over the past year by DJ’s keen on using modern and vintage equipment to create sophisticated electronics with a sharp pop aesthetic.

Alexis Le-Tan and Tom Colebrook quite fluidly morph into our lazy initials: ALTC. Our current appreciation for an older psychedelic sound can be traced back to a dirty, careless and omnipotent period in the early 90’s when the sun, the Fridge Club or Space Tribe leggings brought our bodies together in time to these heroic sounds. Then it all sort of just wound down, more abruptly for some, and for a long time. But like old Smaug under the Lonely Mountain, we understood the longevity of gold. A few years just gone we embarked on a restlessly chaotic and passionate re-appraisal of our sonic past - just at a different speed. An ever growing archive and many edits later, we find ourselves still going; we are a happy and volatile little team, Mr. Le-Tan, who needs no introduction here, a Titan of this slow sound - arguably the original, whose honed booth selections are regularly adorned by loyal crowds all over Europe. Mr. Colebrook, a flash in the pan veteran of the Goa scene, now mainly chief archivist and an Internal wordsmith of ill repute.
There was a folder that existed in the archive called ‘The Socialists’ and over time as we pondered it, we began to understand the contents as taking on some sort of metaphor for a socialist arc of success and defeat, of growth and change, of hope and loss, of commitment and desertion, of lies and the truth, of battles and peace, emptiness and loss. Heroic themes indeed Comrades. As a musical selection, we wanted to imbue these metaphors with corresponding sonic inflections, sometimes we thought of sounds coming up through the ground to fight and be victorious or perhaps to lose, only to retreat and live another solitary day. Some were sounds for a moment of blissful morning sun soaked success, or the grey pulse of an imagined industrial trench. But above all - this selection of songs shows a commitment to each other and to the time and place they were made, and how they exist here - Now. We hope you enjoy the show!

While we were finishing the last details of this release, we read with astonishment in the news that a group of scientists was able to take the first photograph of the black hole that exists in the heart of the milky way. This has raised many questions that we usually find in science fiction. What are they? Are they the portal to another dimension? Are there other dimensions beyond known space-time? The truth is, we don't know shit about this. But the first thing that came to mind, as we laughed through thick clouds of smoke and listened to the final mastering of 'Sticker Shock', was: where did these guys come from? This sound has to come from another dimension. There is no other explanation.

We are more than psyched to introduce you to our reference number 044 “Sticker Shock” produced by Zillas On Acid.
Thomas Roland and James Weissinger were born and raised in Philadelphia (or so they say) and in recent years have built a solid catalog with different appearances in Optimo, Les Disques de la Mort, Multi Cult and Dischi Autunno, among others.

This EP has unique assembled layers and planes. The songs are at the same time fun, psychedelic and deep, mixing slow-motion death disco, dubbed-out drum machine music, and of course ACID to get party people on all planets pumped.

On the remix side, the great German Tolouse Low Trax offers us a robotic, kraut and freaky-funk reinterpretation of the song that gives the album its name. And last but not least, label boss Martin Noise join forces with talented young producer DELLA to create a groovy and percussive madness version of ‘Paper Party’
