You bring up the relationship between theory and practice a lot. I would love to hear an episode about the relationship between non-academics and theory. "Read theory" is something you see often online as a response to liberal-to-right-wing leaning people (although leftists do throw it at each other) asking questions about leftist politics or how things would work in a leftist society, etc., sometimes as a way to shut down the questioner and sometimes to genuinely tell the person that their questions have already been answered within theory. This brings to mind the question: how should we understand the relationship between non-academics and theory? (or maybe more specifically, between working-class people and theory).

In a weird way, as with technocratic administration of the economy, it seems like there is a paranoic or perverse knowledge at work here which seems to add a kind of a-political frisson to the self-presentation/understanding of these guys. Its the point at which they 'know' the election was stolen -that they 'know' the masses are all red-pilled or duped while they, the last 'free-thinking people' have to take the country back - a gesture which uses knowledge to launder out the actual act of political decision. In this way the right wing populism seems to inhabit a kind of ambiguous middle ground between people and elite technocracy. It takes the side of the people but the people who 'know' or who have a special knowledge about technocratic so-called 'mainstream' domination of the people. If memory serves, this was already one of the main ideological gestures of the Fountainhead. Seems to be further testament to how reflexivization/super ego is effecting the petit-bourgeouis position.

A good example of moving the field itself, keeping in line with the Nolan discussion in the previous episode, is the field being destroyed in the dark knight rises.

Colonia Dignidad was the settlement of a German evangelical sect.

After being prosecuted for child abuse in Germany, the group fled to Chile in 1961. Like similar religious sects, it was characterized by the outward appearance of a unified, godly community with well-tempered cultural activities and social welfare, but inwardly and in its environment by oppression, sexual abuse, and exploitation. In the 1970s, it unquestioningly inserted itself into Pinochet's regime of terror, aiding in the imprisonment and torture of political prisoners, weapons production, etc. Since the end of the 1980s, there has been a legal reappraisal of the C.D.'s crimes in Chile.

Its successor organization makes a living from tourism.

The C.D. project uses, on the one hand, a series of documentary recordings of contemporary witnesses, and on the other, a set of melodic improvisations (MIDI files), improvised in the spirit of the impressions of terror, tension, claustrophobia and fear associated with the Colonia. CD 2 (Knochenstückchen) directly reflects this atmosphere. CD 1 (Reue?) on the other hand, is characterized by the contradictory breadth of the statements found after the dissolution of the sect: Denial of atrocities to glorification of the C.D. by leaders who returned to Germany against the professed traumas of formerly abused inmates and exploited community workers.

For this purpose, the eyewitness recordings were sound-modified to a considerable extent. The MIDI files were played back with a variety of virtual instruments (piano, guitar, sax, turntable, lung machine, barrel organ, synths, etc.) in a multitude of modifications (speed, pitches, loops, harmonic and tonal variations), so that the 11 pieces from CD 1 and the 16 pieces from CD 2 each represent a closely interwoven overall composition.

Ralf Wehowsky is one of the most respected practitioners of radical music of our day. He was the founding member of the seminal German group P16.D4 and ran the legendary experimental label Selektion whose ground-breaking releases influenced many working in today's experimental music scene. Previous releases have seen him collaborate with such well known and diverse artists such as Merzbow, Andrew Chalk, Jim O'Rourke, Achim Wollscheid, Lionel Marchetti, Kevin Drumm, Kouhei Matsunaga and Bruce Russell.

Recorded on Hayman Island off the coast of Queensland, Australia, the paths of stranded friends Ryko Kalinko (guitar & sampler) and Aemon Webb (vocals, guzheng & percussion) meet, creating an astonishing 3-part journey of deeply spiritual improvisations reflecting the beauty, isolation and nature of their vivid environment.

“There Are Many Moods Of Tropical Exultation” carefully spends its 20+ minute track length conjuring a spell, bringing all dust in the room to settle. Smoke trails rise. Shade cloth quietly billows. Ryko and Aemon let their guitar and guzheng flow across and between one another, dissolving clock hands and carrying the listener into the twilight hours.

“Stand For The Rush” introduces the B-side and shifts the sense of stillness towards something more rhythmic where the nocturnal world begins to open its eyes. Rattling drum machine percussion, slinking guzheng and chirping birds weave in and out of focus whilst booming kicks drive forward. A distant siren wails whilst life in surrounding undergrowth moves in shadows.

Finally “These Waves…” drops the world into droning negative space where crushing black sky comes down. Crooning out into vast nothing. Murmuring; lost at sea. “Never coming home”.

SSRI - Mysterious duo (Sandra Mikołajczyk and Igor Gadomski) from the center of Poland, is a band whose activity isn't easy to define but often delving into the darker fringes of dub. Their music is often described as a genre of underwater reggae, likely influenced by the distinctive industrial sound of Łódź and a heavy use of reverb effects. They draw inspiration from the city and its distorted concept of tropical nature.

As residents of Radio Kapitał, hosting a show inspired by mental states and the circumstances of their creation, they bring an additional context and depth to SSRI's music.
Their debut album, set to be released on April 29, 2024, by Pointless Geometry.
