Sounds kind of like Beethoven's trajectory, where at the beginning of his career, he's finding his voice while studying under Haydn (and still very much in that classical mode), and then his middle period has this directness of personal, dramatic expression (5th symphony, violin concerto, middle quartets), and then his late period is Beethoven, deaf and in outer space, with stuff like the Hammerklavier sonata, 9th Symphony and late quartets.

Why is success more terrifying than failure ( in terms of evidence for that being the case and why, if it is, it should be the case?)

Ryan and Todd delve into the western in its most radical manifestation, but they use as a starting point, the paradigmatic western Shane. They then examine more contemporary films that turn from the individual hero into a collective one.

Ryan and Todd analyze the recently concluded television series Succession. They discuss it in terms of capitalist subjectivity, tragedy, the death drive, and the ideology of the family. There are spoilers at every point in this discussion.

They discuss the nostalgia that predominates this period of Christmas films and how this limits the political reach of these works.

Par une soirée ordinaire d'hiver, nous assistons à un échange singulier, saisi à la volée, au milieu des livres en piles. En compagnie de Marie-Madeleine Mervant-Roux (directrice de recherche au CNRS) et de Bastien Gallet son éditeur, Daniel Deshays, praticien multiple du son, chercheur lui-même, explore en 75 minutes quelques-unes des thématiques nombreuses qu'aborde son dernier ouvrage "Libertés d'écoute : le son comme véhicule de la relation" publié aux éditions MF. L'écoute comme paradigme de l'attention, le caractère fragile de celle-ci, ses modalités de production, d'apparition et de disparition dans les contextes de la narration audio, au cinéma, au théâtre et à la radio... l'importance de la coupure et de la discontinuité dans les écritures du sonore... la poésie du monde que captent les micros, etc. La force de l'enregistrement, le partage du sensible, etc. Sans rien discriminer, l'enregistreur capte les glissandi de la porte de la librairie qui signale l'entrée des visiteurs, tandis qu'au loin les véhicules de police déploient leurs sirènes, rue de Rennes. Un paysage sonore urbain et aléatoire tamisé par les livres, se dessine derrière le défilé des mots.
