Tōge Morita (1924-2013) was a Japanese teacher and poet from Osaka. In the early 50s, he started publishing his poems in the Katsuragi 葛城 magazine, later becoming its editor-in-chief and, in 1990, its editor.

oshio Kiyosaki (1922-1999) was a Japanese haiku poet and scholar of Japanese literature. He published a biography of Kyoshi Takahama in 1966 and co-authored Kyoshi Monogatari, another study on the renowned haiku poet, in 1979.

The Milky Way (amanogawa, or "Heavenly River" in Japanese) is a kigo for Autumn, mainly because that's when the galaxy is most visible in Japan.

川伝いに行く
水源をめざす
崖の高さを目で測りながら
その姿を高みから目で追う
熱を孕んだ雲が重く
蛇行する川に向かって腫れ上がる
遠くの丘にひときわ高く扇のように枝を広げる木の
水草に隠れた煉瓦の樋門の暗い口に引き込まれる目

An older sister and a younger brother are measuring
the height of the cliff as they trace the river upstream to its source.
From a high vantage point, I look down upon them.
Heat-laden clouds swell toward the meandering river.
A single tree stands tall on a distant hill, spreading its branches like a fan.
Its gaze is fixed on the dark opening of a small brick sluice gate, half-hidden by water plants.
