Underground Audio welcomes the release of “Propulsive Rhythm EP” from Manchester’s own, Cassell. This three track EP features a chunky grooving selection, packed with bass-flavoured energy. 

‘Groover’ presents a blend of ground-shaking bass patterns, laced together with a powerful kick. This rock solid foundation is complimented by a rolling melody that is perfect to get the people grooving prior to peak-time sets.

Acid inspired ‘Detroit’ continues in similar fashion, engrossing heavy bass licks and driven melodies to keep the energy flowing throughout the night. 

The EP is complimented with a tech-house remix by Underground Audio’s very own Kreature. This stomping remix adds vibrant synths and a wonderfully crafted percussion selection, while still commending the acid influence of the original.

A strong contender for dance record of the year, Red Rack’em’s gloriously wonky disco banger was re-released on Classic earlier in 2016. It’s that track that anyone who’s anyone has been bugging us for. After a few months embedding itself into people’s psyches, it returns with two huge new mixes.

First up is the marvellously talented KiNK who is no stranger to Classic, having made a stamp on the label many years ago with his remix of 3rd Face’s ‘Canto Della Liberta’. KiNK has since gone from strength to strength with his productions, accompanied by his extraordinary live performance. He goes in head first with this remix, using some proper techno Wonk and a bass that will make your heart flutter. It is indeed a beast.
 
On the flip, Luke Solomon joins forces with Bristol’s very own Eats Everything and Lord Leopard, a veritable Bristol “Circle of Three”. The Leopard Eats Luke Edit adds an ounce of conformity to the drums and arrangement, without removing too much of the Wonk, taking it ever so slightly into house territory.
 
Overall this is a monstrously Wonky package.

Providing a taste of what’s to come from the upcoming album Glitterbox – Love Is The Message, this sampler serves up the very best dancefloor-filling beats, balancing classic with contemporary across five glittering tracks. 

Up first is a sublime remix of Soul Rebels ‘I’ll Be Good’. Soul Rebels covered the Rene & Angela electro-funk classic back in 2005, and this brand new remix is the first of two EP exclusives from the current king of disco re-edits, Dr Packer. Already a familiar name on the Glitterbox Recordings imprint, Dr Packer specialises in creating glorious upbeat re-works of much-loved favourites. Next up is his brand new remix of King Unique’s anthem ‘Love Is What You Need (Look Ahead)’. Another instant classic, it employs a warm, relaxed beat to give that unforgettable vocal more of a disco vibe.

The third exclusive on the EP, Luke Solomon & Terry Grant’s ‘Disco Revision’ of the seminal ‘Wonky Bassline Disco Banger’ reimagines the charmingly bonkers track, smoothing over some of the wonkiest bits but maintaining the disco fever by amping up the shuddering strings. 

Holding down the “classic” end of proceedings is Kings Of Tomorrow with ‘Tear It Up’, featuring the heavenly voice of Julie McKnight. Glitterbox is all about those euphoric ‘hands-the-air’ moments, which this track has endlessly. Rounding off this outstanding EP with an irresistible groove, Mike Dunn’s re-work of Gershon Jackson’s ‘Love Desire’ is a certified dancefloor pleaser. If you can’t get enough, there’s plenty more where that came from on Love Is The Message.

Patricia Kokett’s sound is shrouded in a veil of mysticism. The brainchild of Lithuanian Gediminas Jakubka, Diabel’s metallic heartbeat underlies a magical superstructure that evokes some kind of DMT infused trip. Or possibly even some kind of ancient ritual, where one is intoxicated by serpents blood. Guided by repetitive drum patterns, it creates a slow joint dance that opens the path towards transcendence.

Gentrified Underground presents an interdisciplinary project
tackling the sonic fiction & afrofuturism of Drexciya. 
Thought as an extension to the Bubble Chamber exhibition happening at Mikro & UP STATE Zürich, GU releases a 2x12 vinyl compilation and a booklet with contributions by Abdul Qadim Haqq, Charlie Mills, chukwumaa, Dominiqueh White, Gentrified Underground, Maïté Chéniere and tracks by Xor Gate (Gerald Donald), Shawescape Renegade, DJ Dijital, Plant43, The Exaltics, Kuldaboli, Iko, Tom Ware, Luz1e and Sansibar.

The goal of this compilation is to showcase the reach and influence which Drexciya had through generations of electronic music producers and also link them together with compositorial predecessors from the early 80s. The musical timeline on this compilation starts from 1982 and reaches its contemporary end in 2019.

"More than twenty years after their first release, the sonic
fictions produced by Drexciya, the Detroit based electronic
duo founded by James Stinson and Gerald Donald at the
start of the 1990s, continues to enthral contemporary
cultural practitioners. By reimagining the Transatlantic
Slave Trade as a fiction of enforced mutation, the Drexciya
mythos opened, and continues to open, a speculative space
for the reimagining of the posthuman condition, and for
questions of becoming, origin and mutation in relation
to capitalism, finance and futurity." - Kodwo Eshun

The booklet contains unseen and unreleased Drexcyan drafts by Abdul Qadim Haqq, an interview between him and GU, contemporary art contributions by chukwumaa, Dominiqueh White and Maïté Chéniere and an academic essay by Charlie Mills.

With rockish guitar riffs, a typical smashing discoid bassline Impasse combines the best of many (musical) worlds and puts the different pieces meaninfully together to come up with an impressive track that exploits its six and a half minutes fully and dedicates itself to dance.

Sick Step is a perfect example of ritualistic behaviour which this Chinese duo brings to their melodics combined together with sinister vocals. Shamanism and powerful percussions are at a threatening point in this track which is nearly the most powerful one of the entire ingenious release.

Formshift is an alter ego of Gavin Bucktrout from Holland. At a young age Gavin got infected with Electronic music. Started playing vinyl records at the age of 13 and later under his alias D-Spirit he played at numerous parties and festivals since the year 2000. After more than 10 years in the hardcore scene he thought it was time for a change, change of sound, change of shape, change of form. Formshift was born! Inspired by pure and genuine music Gavin is continuously looking for new and interesting sounds in his music. The result so far is best described as dark-straight-to-your-face electronics. His raw electronic beats are sometimes experimental and slightly alternative, yet incredibly tasty and regularly cut with strong techno influences. Raw, vulgar, rough, dark and straightforward. Already released several EP’s on highly respected labels such as Bass Agenda, DanceDelicD and Hard Electronics and been picked up by major artists such as Dax J, Dave Clarke, Maelstrom and Neon Electronics to name a few.
