Cold Busted returns to familiar label artist Poldoore (born Tom Schillebeeckx) to release his new album, The Day Off. It features some talented guests, including the mysterious Maverick, emcee duo The 49ers, American blues singer Bodhilynn, and trumpeter Will Magid. Based out of Belgium, Poldoore started producing at an early age and eventually his potential was realized by Cold Busted&rsquo;s offer to release his debut L.A.X. EP . From there the pairing has only grown stronger. Poldoore&rsquo;s sound is about good vibes, creating warm atmospheres that blend funk, soul, lounge, and reggae with punchy drum breaks. Among the album&rsquo;s many highlights is &ldquo;Morning Glory,&rdquo; featuring a rocksteady beat with bright arpeggiated synths at select moments, with the bulk of the track carried by wailing guitars and chopped up blues vocals. &ldquo;Ahhh Yeah&rdquo; enters like a walk in the park with bright keys, lovely strings, and funky rhythms, the results of rearranging an original sample into suitable bits and pieces with a little help from Maverick. &ldquo;Heard It All Before&rdquo; has Bodhilynn&rsquo;s soulful vocal hook accompanied by The 49ers&rsquo; rhymes and a key-based beat with soaring highs. &ldquo;Natural High&rdquo; elicits psychedelic vibes with plenty of effects, a sporadic, low electric shock, and interwoven, layered guitar play. &ldquo;Unconditional&rdquo; uses a Motown-like backing track beefed up by a strong kick and slow, sizzling hats, cymbals, and snares. Midway through &ldquo;Unconditional&rdquo; Poldoore is joined by Will Magid&rsquo;s saucy, bayou-evoking horn solo. &ldquo;Call It A Day&rdquo; is a dreamy funk affair full of shimmery, echoing melodies, teetering guitars, forward-staggering key stabs, and a stand out bass line. The Day Off is full of sonic sunshine, exactly the kind of sonic weather fit for enjoying what little time there is for leisure and much appreciated in today&rsquo;s musical climate. Subtle, sonically warm and full of musical nuances, 'Rift' is built around a languorous, almost French house styled bassline with waves of slow-burning melodic textures easing into the mix. 

A producer renowned for his class and individuality, Andrew Bayer then puts his own refined musical stamp on 'Rift'' with a gorgeously paced and deeply musical re-interpretation. Blending a slightly darker bass groove with some swirling but subtle synth work, Bayer then illuminates the original's melodies into an epic, starry-eyed breakdown

Hilo (pron. hē-lō) is a soundtrack of transformation, of leaving who one is in order to become who one needs to be.

In 2014, my life was turned upside down when I learned I had been adopted. Everything I thought I knew about my origin was untrue, a fabrication. As an artist, I began to produce music that became an audio description of my life during this experience, from thoughts and feelings of levity and absurdity, to despair and prolapse. All the elevated emotions are documented here.

To make sense of this surprise life turn and thrive, I had to face the experience of dying while being alive, becoming reborn while trying to hold dearly to whom I'd been. All the while, I gave the experiences within my head a voice through music.

Hilo is named for the town and airport on the island of Hawaii where I first landed to meet my birth father's family. All of the tracks here were begun and edited on airplanes and trains, fitting the transformational aspects of this journey.

Art is identity. I couldn't release this album without giving the listener context for it. What you hear is the inner dialogue of adventure, illumination, anxiety, and facing a terrifying yet ultimately beautiful unknown. 

This is my story, but it is also a narrative--as old as Greek mythology--of anyone or group who has faced crisis and survived, emerging galvanized and more spiritually complete.

Allow me to take you on a ride.

Thank you: Nick Garcia for his excellent mixing and mastering assistance. Guest vocalist collaborators, John Thornley, Ameer Dyson, Bernard Farley, Rachel Wong, Patrick Baker, Brittany Sims, Alex Tebeleff, and Abbay Misganaw for giving voice to the yearning and searching aspects of these songs. My family and friends, especially Mallory, for priceless feedback and for standing with me throughout the highs and lows of this crazy experience that have came together to form this album.
