"Alexander's Ragtime Band" is the name of a song by Irving Berlin. It was his first major hit, in 1911. There is some evidence, although inconclusive, that Berlin borrowed the melody from a draft of "A Real Slow Drag" submitted by Scott Joplin that had been submitted to a publisher.

This version for trombone quartet is a very common jazz-oriented recital piece, and contains a variety for jazz styles, from ragtime to dixieland to full-on big band swing. We had a lot of fun playing this one, and hope you enjoy it too!

Mr. William Gamache currently resides in Fort Collins, Colorado, and is currently completing bachelor's degrees in music education and music performance at Colorado State University, which he will complete in May 2012. Mr. Gamache has studied euphonium with Adam Frey, Dr. Robert Brewer, Dr. Miller Asbill, and Missy Steinbock, bass trombone with Greg Harper and Jeff Craig, conducting with Dr. J. Steven Moore and Dr. Miller Asbill, and jazz with Wil Swindler, Peter Sommer, Missy Steinbock, and Mark Manges.

As a performing musician, Mr. Gamache is currently a member of the Fort Collins Wind Symphony on bass trombone, the Denver-based trombone choir Too Many Trombones and a euphoniumist with the Loveland Concert Band. Mr. Gamache's past performing ensembles include the Fort Collins Wind Symphony on euphonium, the Rocky Mountain Summer Music Camp Faculty Big Band, the DNA Brass Band, the Colorado State University Jazz Ensemble I, the Western State College Brass Band, bass trombonist in the Colorado State University Symphony Orchestra, and principal euphoniumist in the Colorado State University Wind Ensemble. As a chamber musician, Mr. Gamache has performed with the CSU trombone quartet and the CSU tuba quartet, as well as local Dixieland jazz combos. 

Mr. Gamache maintains an extensive low brass studio in the northern Colorado area, where he enjoys teaching trombone, euphonium, and tuba to students of all ages and abilities.
