I ended up a bit pressed for time for this Junto, but I couldn't not do it; the trios are my absolute favorites.

I woke up at 2am, and because I couldn't get back to sleep, I listened through the #disquiet0592 playlist to hear the duos. I loved what was going on with "7 Hallucinations", and decided that what would complete it would be a temo-synced generative patch from RIpplemaker, which just happened to be tuned a major seventh away from the track's tonal center. 

I loaded the track into AUM's sample player, routed it and the Ripplemaker patch to a mix bus, and then recorded the mix bus. I then tweaked the tempo of the AUM session to clock Ripplemaker at a sort of stumbling rhythm against the original, and let the patch run, fading it up and down as needed, adding a "electrical systems failing, flickering overhead lights" feel on top of the already very spacy track.

File was transferred to iCloud with AudioShare, and then downloaded to my Mac to allow me to add the metadata with Fission. The actual recording, mixing, and everything else all happened on the iPad, lying in bed. That is probably my personal record for being laid back while working on music.

The Haunting of Sector Seven

I was listening through the tracks and hit "The Lonely Pelican Has a Friend" and it absolutely wowed me with its gorgeousness combined with just a bit of glitchyness. The delay on the guitar made me think about setting up a Frippertronics-like loop and playing that over top.

I loaded the original track into AUM's file player on the iPad, fired up the iOdyssey app, and found a suitable fluty/chirpy patch; I've been itching to try it out more, and this seemed like just the right thing for it.

I added the K7D audio effects unit to give me a panning looper for the Odyssey, and recorded two takes of the original plus the Odyssey. Neither of which was quite what I wanted -- just a little thin...so I decided, why not try both? 

I loaded both takes and the original track into AUM, and played it all back in sync to record the final track. This slightly emphasized the grittiness in spots, but I decided that I liked the effect...partly because it is interesting, and partly because getting two more isolated takes was more time than I had to spend.

This was definitely couch (actually bed) synthesis; I did the whole performance, recording,  and mixing on the iPad. I only needed to move the final track to the Mac to MP3 encode and add the track metadata before uploading.

Downloaded the final track, as noted, and tagged the file with Fission, generating a quick bit of art with ML.

I remixed Buzzing Beyond Abstraction Cactus Flower by Persisting Hexagonal Cloud Pattern by adding vocals, a beat and drowning everything in reverb (think pancakes with lots of sirup).

"I was completely enthralled by Andreas', Roland's, and Wilfried's musical 'answer' to the last Junto assignment (0593 -- a trio recorded at 'asynchronous' times and places). I lovingly dissected their sonic opus, and concocted My own answer to this week's Junto challenge -- 0594, the 'Threemix.'

I first diced the intro of Andreas' initial, guitar loop, kept only its first two 'notes,' expanded and looped them to 64.35 BPM -- and repeated them throughout the piece.

encym's guitar meanderings were sliced into brief phrases. I ended up with thirty of them, yet used only two of them to offset Andreas' forceful drones. Also featured are two improv sections of His at very low volumes, in order to suggest an subtle 'undulation' in the piece.

encym's tonality was originally pitched one semitone higher ('Western-scale'); thus, I lowered (pitch-shifted) it a single semitone. The result is consonance.

(One of My fave 'happy accidents' occured while isolating a brief, percussive 'dink' during encym's guitar part [a fingering error?]; that dink -- when saturated, and run through a slap-back and ping-pong delay series -- provided a 'drum' beat that backed the piece.)

As the work nears its cadence, enter Wilfried, with His wond'rous 'theremin' riff, of which I isolated one recorded flourish, and repeated it four times. The motif He played introduces itself at a low volume level, fed through two delays and a reverb, which deepened in intensities as the motifs progressed. 

What makes this piece special for Me is the highly complex -- and joyfully painstaking -- effects automations I crafted throughout it. It took hours of mathematical computations, and programming, in order to make the piece -- itself seemingly 'simple' and 'droney' -- to 'sound' so complex."

The Assignment: Remix an asynchronously produced trio.

I started with https://soundcloud.com/andreas-kitzmann-27370936/disquiet0593?in=disquiet/sets/disquiet-junto-project-0593 by https://soundcloud.com/andreas-kitzmann-27370936 / https://soundcloud.com/ray_cobley / https://soundcloud.com/dandante  because he wrote "I find it hard to break out of drone mold". I used his statement as guiding idea and tried to break out of the drone. 

For that I used https://soundcloud.com/thgirwnhoj/power-trio-drums-disquiet0591 by https://soundcloud.com/thgirwnhoj. I slowed down the drums because I like that. As his drum had a documented scheme, I rebuild the drone to fit to the drums. I separated the drums in hi and lo to get a softer kick and to play around with the Snare/Hihats (which didn't work out so well, and sorry, John, for being so cruel to your drums!) I added some noise from https://soundcloud.com/sinnysounds/plaza-howl-disquiet0591 by https://soundcloud.com/sinnysounds because I had a temporal regression into the drone mindset. Fortunately, while clicking and listening to all tracks from "The Loneiest Number"; I found https://soundcloud.com/isilence/140-bpm-riffs-disquiet0591 by https://soundcloud.com/isilence and gave them a fitting rhythm with a gate filter (sorry for that, PHCP!). Finally I needed a lead singer and because I'm currently experimenting with the hallucination abilities of Adobe Podcast Noise Reducer 'AI' I fed some of the material and got back wonderful babbling vocals.

Chopped up electric guitars, distorted drums, cryptic lyrics, hidden noise messages and complex pads - what more could you expect? (I didn't have enough time now to get this tonally on safe footing - but I think it's bearable.)

Fireside Trip (disquiet0595)

This track was inspired by the Disquiet Junto Project 0595 (details see below): I used a second-hand dictaphone to create a fieldrecording of the ventilation in our toilet. Then I built parallel tracks by applying different filters and a resonator to this recoding. Nothing else was added.
