Free Samples takes a deep dive into the history of hip hop by focusing on the samples that make up some of the genre’s most iconic albums. Select songs from each album are dissected in detail. Each original sample is played followed by an explanation of how it fits into the song we are examining. After each sample in the song of focus is broken down, the song is played in full.

"Blazing Arrow" is the sophomore release from Blackalicious, the duo composed of Gift of Gab and Chief Xcel. Released in 2002, this album falls into the alternative lane, embracing themes of positivity and personal triumph. However, in many instances the duo does not take themselves too seriously with songs about chemicals, elections, and airplanes. Perennially underrated, Blackalicious embraces electic sampling from a wide range of music on this album.
