Pata De Perro is a Mexican electronic music band influenced by folklore and latin rhythms, combining synthesizers, guitars, saxophone and more. The project started in 2015 in the city of Poza Rica, Veracruz and has collaborations with great artists such as Nicola Cruz, Rodrigo Gallardo, Lido Pimienta, Guacamole Oficial, among others.

¨ The EP "Ecos" by Pata De Perro, tries to show through music that the echo itself is the melody of the Universe in the hearts of humans. We try to show and preserve our Mexican roots taking us to a resonance of our culture¨

In its debut with Cosmovision Records, Pata de Perro presents an EP with numerous collaborations: the powerful lyrics by Rodrigo Gallardo, the super fun accordion by IZADORA and the catchy melody of Ultra K plus the two remixes of our local Cosmo artists Nat Barrera and El Extravagante, presenting a journey with lots of soul, with a look into the pristine past of the pre-Columbian Americas and at the same time into the future, with the fusion of electronic sounds and contemporary musical techniques.

The album art was made by our dear Mateo Bories. We hope you enjoy this music, from Cosmovision Records Montréal, for the world with love.

Pata De Perro es una agrupación Mexicana de música electrónica influenciada por el folklore y ritmos latinos, combinando sintetizadores, guitarras, saxofón y más. Gitkin’s music exists somewhere between primal, rootsy memory and distant exotic yearning — A dusty bordertown where the familiar blends imperceptibly into the enchantingly foreign. 

After a long and fruitful run as a bandleader with relentlessly touring party-rockers Pimps Of Joytime and a Grammy-nominated country blues collaboration with Cedric Burnside, multi-instrumentalist Brian J set out to “explore tonalities I’d never messed with,” as he puts it. It was a release from “having to write lyrics or involve my voice,” he notes, and so the (mostly) instrumental sound of Gitkin came into being. 

Reviews of Gitkin’s first LP grappled with descriptors, tagging it vaguely as “cinematic” and comparing it favorably with Khruangbin. True, the music is largely wordless, emotionally evocative, and guitar driven. But it possesses an alluring alchemy all its own. 

Gitkin’s first release, 2018’s well-received Five Star Motel, amply demonstrated his ease with earthy funk and comfortably-cut rhythm. On his new full-length release Safe Passage, the itinerant guitar slinger broadens his already rich palette with melodies informed by Greek and Middle Eastern modalities, Peruvian Chicha and Tuareg Saharan guitar styles. No gimmick, this juxtaposition of gut-bucket blues and funk low-end with unexpectedly twisting lead phrases highlights the intense flavors found in each savory ingredient. 

Recorded at his home studio in New Orleans, Safe Passage showcases a new batch of immediately engaging, repeatedly satisfying cuts, ranging from surf exotica (“Cat Nip”) to raunchy roadhouse stompers (“Fools Gold” and “The Drive”) to dreamy vocal cuts “Foot Steps” and “Hold On” to the floating finale of “Safe Passage.” 

Gitkin’s production radiates character and warmth, leaning on soft-focus vintage mics, dubby spring reverbs and the quirks of an analog tape machine. Further enhancing the intimate vibe are distinguished guests like Carol C (of Si*Sé), who lends her striking voice to three tracks, including the strutting single “De La,” veteran Chauncey Yearwood (congas) and New Orleans local Clifton “Spug” Smith, who provides a sousaphone low-end on the cumbia-not-cumbia “Spug Life.” 

Safe Passage will be released by Wonderwheel on September 18th, 2020 and will be available on vinyl, CD and digitally.

Drawing on the indulgences and reveries of the occult, @amu_amu continues to find the elusive sweet spot where tribal groove,  jungle sweat and psychedelic flash-forwards all combine for unceasing sonic pleasure. His follow up EP on Random Collective is laden with trance inducing acoustics and distinctive atmospheres ideal for followers of any sect or cult-like groups.

Anka Foh is made up of multi-talented Malian singer/composer/songwriter and producer Dasmy Djo and French electronic music producer/DJ/composer and Curuba label head Ditti. The duo met at a series of culture mashing jam sessions between musicians from all over the world in Paris’ underground bars. The two artists clicked and came together to work on some of Dasmy’s compositions - within a few months they formed Anka Foh.

Shika Shika is excited to share their first EP, Kounady, four tracks of much needed upbeat, joyful, soul music that finds a magical sweet spot between Dasmy’s original compositions, inspired by Mandingue traditional music, and Ditti’s jubilant electronica.

Though the fours compositions are rooted in the West African mandingue tradition, they are taken into a whole new context. Dasmy’s vocals and instrumental lines sit alongside swirling, airy melodies, swaggering beats and Ditti’s trademark bleeps and psychedelic, dreamy synths - the recipe for an explosion of delicious flavours and colours.

This is summed up on opener Bara or the driving electro-blues track Tâtâ, a song about giving thanks to those that helped and supported us in our lives. The EP ends with the fittingly beautiful lullaby Kounady (a mandingue word that roughly translates as luck) about how we have to look after ourselves and avoid negativity.

On this celebration of borderless music, Anka Foh have created an uplifting and refreshing debut. Music that somehow combines the dancefloor, douceur (sweetness) and melancholy but, most of all, a big dose of fun.
