Known for his icy and atmospheric sounds, APEAK is a part of Helsinki based Changeless label and has released two projects 'Grey Skies' & 'Empyrean' under it. APEAK has a sense for melodies sung by disembodied, synthesised voices meshed with cavernous drums and heady soundscapes that come together to form a distinct and singular palette. 
This mix for World Canvas features a cut-trough of the APEAK ethos from ambient and noise to sonics of contemporary club music and beyond.

World Canvas Mix 12: APEAK

World Canvas has the pleasure to present a new body of work ‘Connaissance par les gouffres’ by Spanish artist Contacto (David H. Martí). On their sophomore musical release the artist explores a sonic narrative forming from emotionally present synthesiser pieces, interwoven with ambiguous rhythmic patterns which contribute to the release's overall themes of journey and the eventual discovery.
Inspired by the titular piece of writing by Henri Michaux, Contacto’s musical oeuvre finds it’s rooting in the ideas of self-discovery. The starting point might not determine the way the journey pans out, as well as where the traveler might end up at the conclusion of their endeavours. As Martí’s 6-song piece of work forms an immersive world of mystery and intrigue, it’s calling the listener to explore one’s own emotional landscape, through which find refuge and bliss.

Half-There Hypnagogy

LOOM #13 — Procedural Fiction is an ambient sound installation and conceptual album derived from twelve abstract instructions. The work explores the paradox of creation — the tension between rule-bound systems and imaginative freedom.

The sonic and visual elements were co-created using generative AI platforms, treating the instructions as algorithmic procedure to produce a digital fiction. Each track is a sonic rendering of an imperative, utilizing minimalist electronic soundscapes, rhythmic ambiguity, and expansive drones to translate complex ideas into atmospheric form.

The music is a constructed void, designed to be unsettling yet contemplative, inviting the listener to find personal meaning within its austere, fabricated structure.

Often mislabelled with the rather shallow ‘post-club’ hashtag, Strachkvas has been patiently alienating himself from the scene’s status quo. His sounds grew into the claustrophobic and grotesque realms of his debut release - Hedonic Treadmill (G&P003). More than two years has passed by with the treadmill rolling on non-stop - as Strachkvas reshapes his live performance with constant updates of new material, and occupies himself by mastering the arts of fine dining. Now, the producer, visual artist, and importantly our beloved friend with whom we have partied through countless nights, is finally back after the long hiatus from officially releasing music, bringing not one but two fresh releases for 2020. Gin&Platonic are pleased to continue the mutual collaboration by putting out one of the two upcoming EPs - ‘Break-in’.

Regardless of the past years, the Ostrava born-and-raised Strachkvas re-visits his primal environment - the club, and he does so with precision and a recognisable amount of contempt. The dancefloor-ready triptych ‘Break-in’ invades the innocent listeners with a mesmerising eponymous first track, holding them hostage until the abrasive lead single. ‘Fake’ may liberate them temporarily, thanks to seductive (yet menacing) vocals by M - a ‘Sound in New Media’ masters student minoring in neuroscience, interested in ending class war, becoming a pop star, the icey-sea, and hot sauce on popcorn. According to M, ’Fake’ is meant to become the next queer dancefloor anthem, and it is all about being seen. M’s lyrics here are taken from a tweet they wrote in response to having a difficult time dating as a non-binary person, when everyone treated them like their gender was fake. The third and final track, named after an infamous chemical tanker ‘Cumbrian Fisher’, eventually devours the listener into gloomy streams of contaminated waters, transforming the dancefloor into a polluted ocean-bottom, poorly lit by glimpses of sunrays that dimly pass through the aquatic surfaces covered with large oil spills and goo lumps.
