Aspiring Chicago resident STARKA is most musically interested in crafting energizing, genre-spanning dance mixes. They believe that we all deserve spaces to flourish, which for them includes (but also goes way beyond) spaces to dance, commune, and relieve. They want to improve access to these and other life-giving spaces. They weave their passion for music and dance with their care for improving living conditions, particularly in terms of housing, environment, and health.

Earlier this year, we ushered in the summer with a new playlist from Berlin's DJ Spit. Now, we're bringing it to a close with a new Crack Mix from the Rascals Records and Explorers platform boss, who's spent the last few months playing out across Germany, Europe and the UK.

We're still embracing the summer vibes, however, with a set he describes as fusing "futuristic energy and laid-back breaky rhythms to make your seasonal adventures even more memorable". There's a deftness at play here as Spit cycles through stuttering beats, muscular techno and gritty screwface-inducers. All in all, a proper good time.

Crack Mix 521: DJ Spit

Pretty Privilege is a DJ and organizer based in Montreal, Canada. She is the founder of microrave, a FLINTA*-centered mix & party series. Over the past two years, she has become a mainstay of the city’s queer rave scene, performing at local favorites like Homegrown Harvest and Piknic Electronik, as well as multiple shows in the United States and Europe. She has also done mixes for HÖR, XOXA, Shift Radio, Action Replay Codes, Radio Vacarme, and FemmeDecks. Her mixing style is faithfully dance driven, with sets that heavily incorporate sexy vocal electro, pop-inspired techno, and liquidy afterhours grooves.

With releases out on labels such as Sorry Records, Worst Behavior as well as a slew of self-releases and collaborations, PlayPlay has been slowly and steadily amassing a thumping discography over the years. Their most recent EP out on Brooklyn-based Sorry Records has been described as “euphoric and joyous” (Untitled 909) and as three “springing, two step-inspired club tracks” (DJ Mag).
