Chuck would often introduce this song by telling the crowd that it was famously covered by Metallica. "We wrote it of course! Cough ahem..."

A few artistically tasteful variations on the original have been made for this version.

One of the composers, Joe Bouchard, listened to it and granted his royal seal of approval.

Both Derek (panned right) and Chuck (panned left) take solos during the song.

Astronomy was often the final song of a live set from The Bastard Sons of Dennis.

Then Came the Last Days of May is a cover song.
Originally released by Blue Öyster Cult on their 1972 eponymous album.

Then Came the Last Days of May was always a tremendously popular Bastard Sons of Dennis song. It was one of the first songs the duo ever performed, appearing in the duo's first ever live performance at The Angel in Exeter.

The lyrics are a true story. This song was composed by Donald 'Buck Dharma' Roeser, guitarist and vocalist of Blue Öyster Cult, after three friends of his from Stony Brook University in New York were murdered in a drug deal that went very wrong.

Derek would often change the word 'truck' in the line "Now and then a truck" to 'duck'. This was always hilarious, with his exemplary comic timing.

Ducks became something of a theme for The Bastard Sons of Dennis. Fans would often bring their own toy ducks along to shows.

Occasionally Chuck's lips wouldn't be moist enough to perform the little whistle that comes at the end of his solo. This was also very funny. Check would just end up blowing and puffing and shrugging in a comical way.

The whistle actually comes from the 1970s uk sitcom The Goode Life. The character Tom Goode would often give this little whistle. Exactly where Tom took it from remains largely mysterious.

Blue Öyster Cult perform this song in the key of E minor. The Bastard Sons of Dennis transposed it to A minor.

The tempo increase after the first verse was Derek's suggestion. It was a very good one.

The percussion instrument at the beginning of this recording is an old disused CPU fan and its various danglesome janglesome appendages.

Chuck would tune his guitar to DADGAD for this interpretation of this song.

She's as Beautiful as a Foot was sometimes used to open longer Bastard Sons of Dennis performances.

Derek takes the solo at the beginning.

The Subhuman was one of The Bastard Sons of Dennis's most progressive songs. Chuck would tune his guitar to a drop-D for the interpretation.

This particular version owes much to the wonderful live On Your Feet Or On Your Knees recording, where guitarist Donald Roeser demonstrates his absolute mastery of the melodic minor.

Within this cover there is a lot of guitar soloing. It is all highly definitive and would be performed more-or-less identically by The Bastard Sons of Dennis every time. Both Chuck and Derek take solos.

Wings Wetted Down is a truly wonderful song, often overlooked. The craftsmanship of its composition by the legendary Bouchard brothers is masterful.

This version is in G# minor. The chord progressions are so beautifully constructed, with a minor second A major and a 'devil's interval' flattened fifth chord of D major providing a gloriously satisfying twist.

Both Chuck and Derek take solos. Derek's is an addition that is not found on the original version.

Wings Wetted Down was always a very popular live song. It was performed on many occasions by The Bastard Sons of Dennis and introduced by the band with a cryptic and comical description.

Redeemed was always a tremendously popular Bastard Sons of Dennis song. It was one of the first songs the duo ever performed live.

It was added to their repertoire for one of their first ever shows, which happened to be just before Christmas. They would describe Redeemed as their Christmas song, even if it was the middle of summer.

The count-in for a live performance was "One, one," or two other random numbers. This was due to the rather odd amount of beats at the beginning.

The guitars in this version were both recorded live at the same time in Wud Records Studio One. The vocals were added afterwards, and the bass a long time later.

In the uk we are broadly pro LibDem/Green/Labour/SNP. We are VERY anti-tory, bnp, ukip, and any of their friends and associates. We have no trust at all in the uk right wing press monopoly and the bbc. Beware the bbc and its claims of neutrality. It is the propaganda mouthpiece of the tory party. It even charges a propaganda tax called the licence fee. But we like Test Match Special and Radio 6, so does that make us hypocrites...? Hmm.

We support independence for Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland and Cornwall. We support the individual and the underdog. We are anti-putin and his war, and pro-Ukraine.
