Wud Records Archives Sampler.

This section of Wud Records is where we have put the music and memories of glorious bands from days gone by. These bands are no longer heard live, but this is a place where their wonderful songs can live on and be enjoyed. We created these pages because we are fans of these bands. This material is not owned by us but by independent individuals and companies.

The main purpose of the archive pages is to pay homage to other bands that we have known and loved over the years. We have always felt it to be a terrible shame that there are so many bands that write great original material who simply disappear without trace after they split up and it is no longer possible to ever hear any of those songs again. Perhaps we can go a small way to rectify this issue.

We would love to be able to host more music, photos, video, stories... of all of the bands already in our Archives. If you have any recordings that might be usable, please, please - contact us by email: archive@wudrecords.co.uk

I have been playing around with.....ii V I progressions and the Bebop A dominant scale. I call this one an Indie Dark Jazz flavor. Hope you will like some part of it and maybe hum along before it ends.....

He was 18 years old and left for Verdun at the beginning of 1917 until the end of the war. He left in 1940 with a battalion of Alpine hunters for Scotland to go to Norway, to take the Germans in reverse with the British... but... he returned to France in a hurry. Captured by the Germans, taken by train to Soest, he was liberated in 1945... when he got off the train, his wife found it difficult to recognize him. This title is for him. Respect.

El Camino de Leda Remixes Vol.1 y Vol.2
The new collaborative release between Folcore Records (Barcelona) and Fértil Discos (Buenos Aires)

A double album made up of remixes of the vinyl released in 2019 "El Camino de Leda" that featured the participation of Chancha Via Circuito, La Charo, Uji, Shaman Herrera, Tremor, Barda, El Remolón, Soema Montenegro, Dat García, King Coya , Pol Nada and more representatives, both of the organic electronic sound of Buenos Aires and singers of contemporary Argentine folk and urban music.

This time, artists from different latitudes remix the tracks of the original ones to create new sounds in song format, to make them suitable for the dance floor in slow mode and also to listening them on any occasion. It has the participation of Klik & Frik, Rodrigo Gallardo, Guazú, Derrok, Tribilin Sound, Carla Valenti, Qechuaboi, Lucas Lead, Mente Orgánica, Nixtamal just to mention some of the collaborations.

El Camino de Leda Remixes Vol.1 and Vol.2 is a new tribute to Leda Valladares, two volumes that include 10 songs each. Available on all streaming platforms.

Billie Holiday by Goodstaff.

Goodstaff were Silverton’s finest post-punk extreme sports band of the late nineties and early noughties.

Goodstaff were an awesome live band. Besides creating a most joyous hullabaloo on stage, they were visually one of the most interesting bands of their time and sounded unlike any other act in the south west. Many of their songs were about subjects such as snowboarding and the winter sports lifestyle and some of their songs were used on snowboarding videos.

Frontman Ross Martin was the main songwriter and provides all the guitars and main vocals that you can hear, including some rather interesting and unusual stomp-box effects. He played his guitar slung so low you would think that his knuckles must drag along the ground when he walked. Mik E played the keys, sang backing vocals and provided a lot of stage presence and psychotic uber-geek strangeness and digital waveform finery.

Goodstaff had one of the finest rhythm sections around. John Thornhill was an awesome drummer and highly visual, especially during Superstitious White or Black which was mostly in seven time. Ant Barron on five-string bass also had a great stage presence with his facial hair and piercings and numerous coloured contact lenses. He also provided backing vocals and acted superbly as a dry foil to Ross’s on-stage wit.

Despite a couple of years of success playing the south of England and developing a formidable reputation for their live shows, which had a much bigger and far more powerful sound than these recordings, the band ground to a halt when Ross failed to return from a snowboarding holiday in New Zealand. As far as we know, he is still there.

Promise the World, from Ride That Fantasy by Recluse.

This is the 2001 album Ride That Fantasy by Devon trio Recluse.

Sadly we have no information accompanying this album called Ride That Fantasy by Recluse, other than the track titles and the name of the band, Recluse.

We are fairly sure that it is Alex Painter on guitar and vocals and writing most of the material, although as to whether or not Chris White and Tim Desmond provide the bass and drums (or more, or less) and other such detail remains largely mysterious. It sounds as if Alex played a baritone guitar, or at least tuned one of his guitars down somewhat, for some of the songs.

We like Recluse a lot and hope its members are still making great music somewhere, somehow.

Recluse were a three piece band from Devon who wrote the most disarmingly haunting and powerful songs. They were three of the most polite and unassuming young men if you met any of them, yet when put on a stage with some instruments to play they produced the most gloriously demonic musical cacophony.

The main songwriter in Recluse was Alex Painter (guitar, vocals) and when he left the area to study music at Salford the band seemed to grind to a halt. This was a great shame as he was one of the most accomplished young rock musicians and composers in Devon. Chris White played bass and Tim Desmond drums to complete the line-up.

As far as we know, the band made just two albums – Propaganda in 2000 and Ride That Fantasy in 2001. We hope you enjoy listening to the music of Recluse as much as we still do, even after all these years.

We found this demo amongst our archives and felt it deserved to be shared, along with a somewhat incomplete biographical history of the band Dayglow based on our memories.

First up, it's very important to say that we have no information accompanying the demo CD. All that is written on the CD is 'Dayglow' and 'Grain of Sand'.

So, dear gentlemen of Dayglow, we know not what your names are. We also don't know for sure the names of these tracks, we simply guessed based on what we could hear in the lyrics. If we got it all horribly wrong, please let us know!

Dayglow were without a doubt the most improved band in the Torbay area during the 18 month (or so) period with which we were familiar with that whole scene. The live music scene in Torbay just after the turn of the millenium was fantastic, largely thanks to The Live Stage run by Joe and Mel at The Hideaway and another orange venue before the Hideaway became home for all the live music shenanigans that went on every week.

Dayglow started out as a three-piece grunge band. These recordings are almost certainly from their early days. Their first show was at the orange venue and they played support to another act, possibly Murdock or Kickdown or Outcast or Torna-K, who were all quite big on the scene at the time. Also on the bill were Parafinalia and Goodstaff. Goodstaff played every week and opened the proceedings.

The first Dayglow performance we witnessed was not particularly spectacular, apart from one highly memorable comedy moment. There was a song they tried to play that involved a somewhat twiddly riff on the bass, and during the first three or four attempts the string on which the riff was being played kept popping out of the nut of the bass, so the poor bass player had to replace it and try again.

After several attempts, the guitarist, singer and frontman of Parafinalia stepped up to hold the recalcitrant string in position, and continued to do so for the remainder of the rendition of that particular number. He held it in place rather firmly, effectively putting a massive bend on the whole string, so it was entirely out of tune with the rest of the band. The two of them cavorted awkwardly around the stage in a weird comical dance, like conjoined twins in a 19th century cabaret or two wounded beetles trying bravely to reproduce. The few of us that noticed what was going on found it hilarious. At the end of the song, the assistant was warmly thanked and Dayglow continued with their set.

Dayglow played the Hideaway two or three more times after that, each performance better than the previous as the band grew tighter and more accomplished as they gained experience. The last time we saw them they had grown to a four-piece having added a second guitarist. This latest performance was fantastic and the band probably had the best sound of any performance anybody ever gave at any of the Live Stage shows we remember.

There was one other thing that was rather striking about Dayglow. Their bass player was ludicrously tall. There were several extremely tall bass players for some reason at that time on that scene, and Dayglow's was probably the tallest.

Later on Rob Duncan joined Dayglow on guitar and eventually the band changed their name to After The Blackout.

Myke and Ross carried on together with another band, which was a continued evolution of Dayglow, called Drawn On Empty Faces. That lasted until 2009, when Ross gave up on playing music.

We support all independent musicians who are doing something we find interesting. Our team members all have formal music education qualifications.

In the uk we are broadly pro LibDem/Green/Labour/SNP. We are VERY anti-tory, bnp, ukip, and any of their friends and associates. We have no trust at all in the uk right wing press monopoly and the bbc. Beware the bbc and its claims of neutrality. It is the propaganda mouthpiece of the tory party. It even charges a propaganda tax called the licence fee. But we like Test Match Special and Radio 6, so does that make us hypocrites...? Hmm.

We support independence for Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland and Cornwall. We support the individual and the underdog. We are anti-putin and his war, and pro-Ukraine.
