Well, well... another simple instrumental track, yet totally different than the last one, way more electronic.

Wanted to give the new quite cool (and currently still free) TB-303 emulation TV3 (by the always reliable Portuguese plugin company Imaginando) another run... already forgot about the other stuff while working on another new track in Cubase. If you're more into funky soul music you're gonna like that one (better).

Put izotope's Neutron on this one, so it's their fault if the song sounds wrong (too brigth maybe?). :P

Not much more to say... initially wanted to give this one a bit more movement and oomph, but got distracted by the new track. 

Maybe later, maybe not. Not a big fan of those exuberant, super limited "in your face" electronic tracks: always feel sonically harassed by those, if that makes any sense. ;)

As promised: some funky soul music! :)

Well this track is basically me trying to get (re)accustomed to Cubase 13... since there is version 14 now I wanted to (re)try "mixing the Cubase way".

Sadly still not "into it"... so many annoying little details that make you think: WTF? Why the h*** is it so complicated to do this, why is the GUI the way it is etc... not sure if they fixed any of it in the new one.

Whatever... also wanted to try out the very new Rhodes Anthology plugin:  more versatile, less expensive than the last plugin. Still too much dough for my budget... 

And went for the free SSD 5 drums this time. Really like those! Didn't use any MIDI, built those beats all myself. There'se also some "Minimoog bliss" in here, courtesy of NI's Monark (still free with any purchase at Plugin Boutique!). And some free trumpets by Orchestral Sounds (for their free SINE player). Still sound a bit "drunk", but all in all quite nice, not too annoying. ;)

Vocals might still be not perfectly on point, sound not as good as it could be... but rather exhausted by Cubase right now, as is my CPU. :(

Let's Get To It

It's Metal Time again! :P

Downloaded the marvellous free Krimh Drums by Bogren Digital... they promised "album-ready drums for your metal productions for free" - and damn, they delivered!!! The full version is on sale right now, so if you're in need of some really punchy metal drums... ;)

So HAD to make a nice short metal track with those... pulled out the old "Rowdy" bass by UJAM for this, and the always reliable "AmpCraft 1992" by Karog.

Also made use of the quite old and now finally free "megasingle" amp by Plugin Aliance - and was really surprised how well it fits into modern metal music.

Gave looperman.com another try and found this great gory vocals by MetalEd. They're already two years old, but after some little eq, compression and a little reverb i'm really thrilled by how they came out!

Not much more to say... really like my little artwork, my collage... but still not really sure what you'd call this: Post-Metal, Sludge, Post-Hardcore? Whatever, rock on!

Revolution! (feat. MetalEd)

Staying on the heavy side for now! Somewhere between Post Rock and Vintage Doom Metal. :)

Tried out some synths and some of the drum VSTs by Ugritone, which are on sale right now... as is EVERYTHING they ever made, in their so-called "farewell sale": they will cease to exist by the end of the year. :( 

So if you need anything really (!) hard and heavy, up to the wildest extremes (midi patterns, IR's, drum plugins) you should take a look, fast! 

You can hear their "vintage doom drums" here, enriched with some synths, bass, guitars... and some really wonderful historical oldschool radio drama snippets from the 1960s.

An Alarm Has Been Given

Well, well... changed quite a bit, this short, little, yet bombastic track! 

Originally was based on a bunch of totally different vocals from a production workshop (with a little contest of sorts). But those vocals aren't / weren't released yet and not meant to be published in any other form than the official release.

So had to look elsewhere... and found another little treasure in one of the old vocal packs by EDM artist Zara Taylor (already mentioned a few times she exclusively does EDM stuff herself, what a pity). And added a few phrases spoken by Cristina Soto.

Might sound a bit repetitive at first, but I'd say it really helps to get the "message" across. And that message might resonate quite well these days, with more and more of those petty, divisive, reactonary figures rising to the top. At a point in history, where it's abundantly clear that in a capitalist system you can buy EVERYTHING, even the most powerful political offices.

Whatever, like the track... really tried my best to "master" it myself this time, quite happy with the sound. Hope it "translates".

Didn't want the artwork to look too "naive", too "chliché-ridden", so went into a bit different, a bit more "existential" direction: underneath, we all look the same, baby! ;)

Happy new year everyone! :)

Well, so much for the cheering... why not start this already dreadful year with some beats, some hip-hop? Well, it's the very first song I finished in 2025, hope you like it.

Wanted to test drive my new DAW, put some new plugins and vocals to use... and ended up with this oldschool hip-hop /battle rap track.

Not much more to say... still finetuning - but quite happy with the sound already.

And soundcloud keeps tampering with the wrong things while trying to make things right - or "better", in order to compete with spotify & co... not to mention the nonexisting customer support. :\

INFO: Middle aged music maker (and recreational drummer) from the middle of Franconian nowhere arranging music for open minded music lovers who (like me) don't want to listen to the same (kind of) music all/every day - way too boring (or even annoying).

So you'll find all kinds of stuff here, from Space Jazz to Hip Hop, from Synthpop to Triphop, from Folk to Doom, from here to there, from then to now, and many things in between - except for "pure" EDM / Techno / Trance, not my cup of tea. :P 

Many tracks tend towards "alternative pop". Well, if you don't like a song/genre - just skip it! I won't mind...  ;)

P.S.: Before you ask: I (almost) never start with the vocals, asking myself: what strange things could I make with those?

Instead I start making strange music THEN look for some vocal parts that might fit. You'd be surprised how often you get a "match" the moment you throw those in the mix. Well, sometimes it needs a little tweaking... ;)
